Q: If you were coach this week, what would be your game plan to beat Souths?

I think you guys overcomplicate things.. all we need to do is swap jerseys before the game instead of after it.

Have a our speedsters target their forwards, not at them around them, throw a couple of dummys and sidestep.
Pay at least needs a game plan that works and the players have to stick to it, the side to side passing wasn't employed against the Dragons, it moves the defence around, if we kick high we gotta get under it, communicate and contest every kick.

Make all of them including Pay watch the Melbourne game 10-20 times over and then make every one of them sign a contract to forfeit their salary if they don't promise the same commitment effort and aggression every single round for the rest of the year...

Need to match the physicality that south’s have, we can’t match their back line or spine speed tbh

We need to get into a grind and and limit how quick the play is but referees won’t let us also need to make sure the ball isn’t alive all the time with lots of stoppages... it does sound like a union game so boring lol but with what we have and are capable of doing we can’t do play for 80mins against a good team week in and week out

We can only shine in patches I believe and adding the stoppages/slow down I think we can try pick lit moment to shine but Souths won’t make it easy to do if they fight back, need to win the fight with small things and get to them

If we can atleast mentally our play them then maybe just maybe

This is what Des did with a meh pack, played to the percentages and kept us competitive mostly

Simple:
-Hold the ball
-brutally bash them in defence
-dont give penalties
-no laziness, play for one another
-play for 80 minutes
-no block plays

I’d ask nrl for a bye and give the points to Souths so our for and against doesn’t get a hit anymore lol

On a serious note not much the coach can do besides drop licha (which won’t happen), bring in rfm and just tell the team who ever doesn’t perform well gets dropped next week. Thrashed by 30-40 3 weeks into round 5-6 couldn’t get much worse can it?

Do they make Souths vooddoo dolls? That's our only chance.

Actually our best chance is it pisses down rain and prevents them putting on a high score.

I recall this game last year...Cook carved us up. So first thing is mark him closely...any time he runs SMASH HIM.
All Suffs attack comes off Cook going forward so nullifying him makes them look very ordinary.

Secondly if Suffs get close to our line Meaney must be fully aware of Reynolds short kicking game...he will target the posts to get richochets and odd bounces.

In D we need line speed to get in their faces and cut down Cooks time to pick his runner. This will be tiring so our bench rotation is critical. Smith and Ogden MUST see bigger minutes to share the workload. Be prepared to wrestle too...dont peel off so quick...if the refs want to penalise us out of the game SO BE IT. Slow down Suffs ruck.

We must move up in a straight line....do not come out of the line attempting an intercept Holland.

At end of our sets in attack Lewis and Cogger must kick...if they get the ball...dont pass it to a centre or 2nd rower who are marked...kick it. Lewis and Cogger must also stand deeper to receive the ball...not so shallow that they have no time to put a proper kick in.

In attack look to attack Souths edges early. Like he did with Brisbane,Bennett employs a very compressed D line for the first 3 tackles...so dont simply go one out...look to shift on early tackles....if a kick to a wide winger is on...try it. Dont die wondering. Dont be so robotic in A...try things and if they dont come off...then D with commitment to make up for it.

Dont be impatient or hang your heads if we get behind. Keep believing in the virtue of a good aggressive moving line in D....hitting hard and slowing them down. Look forward to getting into a grinding match...compete on all plays.

To be honest no matter who you change nothing is going to change the dogs will still get smashed. Could be for another 2 years before we see any consistency of winning

Swap jerseys with Souths and hope they give "Fake Bulldogs team" the win!

Nah it's simple. We cannot beat Souths... we can only limit the damage that is about to get done to our F&A.

The task to beat Souths would be like Cabra Sydney Shield side beating Roosters in a grand final. It just won't happen.
Too late damage is already there

Take the lesson out of the Dragons game at least anyway, whilst everyone criticized the up and comers the Dragons saw us coming and really stuck it to us, why not use some of their game plan?

We've got to take Souths on thru the middle to wear there big forwards out. Shifts from left to right around the ruck to expose there big forwards laterally, allow our smaller pack to find some space.
Good support play, early kicks in the set to turn them around with a good kick chase.

Disagree, all good soufs attack come from the go forward and quick play the balls the twins get and thats when Cook becomes dangerous.

Simply we don't have the size in the forward pack to take on the burgess twins and slow down the play ball.

We're going to get smashed

Well if the refs don't try and tire us out with bullshit penalties in the first 20 minutes (like they did last week) and if Pay grows a brain (which he won't) and thinks of a smart gameplan to stop souffs by targeting, Reynolds, cook and co (again which he won't) all game we should be able to win. (who am I kidding souffs will kill us).

Get Bloody Nick Meaney to sniff around for offloads. He needs to convert mini breaks into points.
