Melbourne are masters of the third man in tackle and they seem to be able to get away quite consistently with contact below the knees which is a big no no.

Well said. Cannonball is where a player is held in the tackle by either one or more players and progress is stopped then a third man comes in and takes out the players legs below the knees.....evidenced a lot in Melbourne and Souths bag of tricks....
