NRL Looking At Overhauling Golden Point System

Has anyone noticed this problem wasn't a problem until golden point was introduced??

It was changed because of the draws in Origin when QLD retained the shield.

So you can blame golden point on NSW bitching about the draws.

I actually like this.

I mean ideally you would just allow draws, but it makes sense to try to get a winner because that is far more interesting than a draw. So we won't ever go back to that.

This system means that teams will try harder to win without it going to golden point, and the losing team still gets some benefit from being levelled at full time.

I agree.
I don’t see why there hasn’t to be 4 points available though.
At full time, the match is declared a draw and both teams get a point, then they play golden point for an extra point.

This does not work because then those games are worth 3 points and the system can be gamed. Going to golden point needs to be something teams want to avoid.

Actually it's not that bad. I'm sure Peter Beattie was pushing for:
1.73 points for a goal.
0.47 for a drop goal.
6.83 for a try.
0.2 for a penalty try.
673,625,419 points for each win.
