It may or may not have made a difference but if the officials expect the players to abide by the rules why can't they???????

Two points for a conversion. After a team has scored a try (including a penalty try),they are awarded a "conversion" kick at goal. The kick is taken from a point in line with where the ball was grounded for the try, as near or as far from the goal-line as the kicker desires.

Every metre wide of where the try was scored adds a bit of pressure. He wouldn't have had the same pressure from 7 metres closer to the post. Another dud decision to shift it to the sideline.

Yes, he shanked the kick but being bang on the sideline at the 79th minute to level the game was immense pressure.
No doubt even moving a few meters closer to the posts would have alleviated some of this pressure, even subconsciously - Its a mental thing.
