I think these new guys have destroyed the critics on here. All I read about was "rubbish". "cant tackle", "will get rag dolled".
They have been very good for young guys and will get better. Cogger is in the same boat. But he can tackle, he wont get rag dolled, and he sure aint rubbish.
I think its time to put the negative posters in the bin.
One game a superstar does not make.
Heck even 10 games doesn't make them a superstar.

You can fire for a few games and impress, but if you play 5 really good games, then 21 where you fall back into old ways, that's not a good thing is it?

He's not as bad as everyone makes him out to be. Give the kid a chance to develop. He didn't put a foot wrong in the Raiders trial and is doing nicely at Cup level.

Last week he forced 4 dropouts and had 2 try assists with 1 being a long spiral pass out wide and then a short-ball to a barnstorming Garlick.

My main concern is his defense with his size - and Melbourne are going to look to send all traffic at him and Hoppa. Real trial by fire this Sunday in Melbourne.

He's no smaller in Statue to Brodie Croft and his defence is fine, puts in. You will get inconsistencies but I like what Cogger brings- a genuine half back.

What do I read from that ........... his defence is getting better. Plus stats don't always tell the full story, after all he was picked in the Team of the Week for R3.

Like most small halves coming through in D they need bloody good support from their inside and outside defenders... when Melb sent big Nelson charging at Cogs from 10m out he gonna need help. Hopefully the team can rally around him and aim up.

Probably more interesting stats

Rd 1: Jack Cogger Handled 43 Passed 32 Passes/Run 2.91m Dummys 5 Kicks 8 Kick Metres 253 Long Kicks/Into Space 2 All Runs 11 Run Metres 77

Rd 2: Jack Cogger Handled 34 Passed 29 Passes/Run 5.8m Dummys 0 Kicks 5 Kick Metres 140 Long Kicks/Into Space 0 All Runs 5 Run Metres 27

Rd 3: Jack Cogger Handled 54 Passed 38 Passes/Run 4.75m Dummys 1 Kick 14 Kick Metres 315 Long Kicks/Into Space 4 All Runs 8 Run Metres 38

Seems to be a decent kicker. Handling the ball a lot. Not sure you can ask much more of a halfback at this point. Get the team organised and moving. Kick. Minimise errors. Hopefully his confidence builds off that.

I agree. He doesn't have the flash of a SJ or the precision of a Aeynolds, but if he can be a Cronk-lite for us offensively and get the job done defensively then I'll be fine with that.

He's no smaller in Statue to Brodie Croft and his defence is fine, puts in. You will get inconsistencies but I like what Cogger brings- a genuine half back.
I agree. After seeing how Prince Lewis completely shutdown TPJ the second time we played the Broncos in 2018 it shows that technique and effort is just as important as power/ size.

Thanks for pulling this together.

People do realise Cogger has been playing in the NRL since 2016 right? He debuted 2016.

2016: 6 games, 6 losses
alongside Lamb x 1
alongside Hodko x 5

2017: 2 games, 2 losses
alongside Hodko x 2

2018: 12 games, 3 wins, 9 losses
alongside Pearce x 5 (1w)
alongside Watson x 7 (2w)

He was pretty average alongside Mitchell Pearce and Hodko (who are better halves players that Lewis at present).

That said whilst his defence can be shaky at times, and his organisation sees him go missing in action a little bit, there are some good qualities in his game.

His kicking game is excellent and generally on a dime. Gets a lot of repeat sets.
He's a smart player and reads play quite well in regards to running or playing through the hands.

I think given a chance to prove himself knowing there is competition around, he'll do quite well, but (like Lewis), probably get told to keep it simple and get the basics right.
Don't forget he had Nathan Brown as a coach

Keen to see him in action in our colours.

From what I've seen he's very organised and has a neat kicking game. Still just 21, there's plenty to work with in him.
