He’s a Warren McDonnell signing very ordinary at ISP level at the Tigers, hyped up Benji connection was a panic acquisition during Hasler sacking & Reynolds/Mbye move to Tigers;eyes closed & hope for the best. Not a hooker, not a half & not a fullback- should be moved on ASAP.
Watch the game again, watch how engages the markers and puts the forwards over the advantage line. Shits all over lichaa. Passes were nice and crisp and off the ground, not the fucking waddle around and pass that lichaa does.

Not fussed about Hopoate at fullback. Just to slow. If Hopoate was in the centre, with Smith outside him and
Meaney chiming in from fullback, it could get interesting.
Oh geez here we go.
You don't think Hopoate should be at the club, little own in the 17 right?

Meaney looked ok yesterday until confronted by someone running hard towards him - then he looked like Brad Abbey - didn't put his body on the line, which is what he is paid to do. I thought Cogger and Montoya went ok. As someone wrote earlier (Spoonman) yesterdays game showed a lot about those not ready for first grade.
Meaney didn't get much of a chance to show his wares, but Hoppa claimed the 1 jersey.
Looked like his Tongan form.
Meaney is a project player, back to ISP until needed

1. Meaney

4. Holland
5. Crichton
6. Foran
7. Lewis
8. Napa
9. :(
10. Tolman
11. Mariner
12. Jackson

16. CHN
17. Ogden / Fualalo / Renouf (cant decide after today)

* Martin was disappointing today and i don't see Pay picking him so i left him out
I think exactly that team and i like Martin but i also agree on that

I think he is very good and given a chance will be an excellent fullback.
In fact if start him and have Hoppa at center because he offers very little at fullback

Hoppa is our best fb option.

I've seen nothing from Meaney to suggest he's the better option for fullback.

Same here, not saying that he won’t, just that he hasn’t yet. If he wants the spot he has to take it, demonstrate every day that he’s ready. No one should be given a spot, they all should have to earn it.

He’s not the only one in that position, there is plenty of competition for spots and that’s a very healthy position to be in.

Am the only one who thought JMK was head and shoulders above Lichaa today?

1. Hoppa (out played Meaney)
2. Crighton (his quick hit ups and play the balls will be priceless)
3. Holland (developing nicely)
4.
5. Smith (kids going places)
6. Foz Dawg
7. Prince (exciting talent)
8. Napa (just needs to speed up the play the ball)
9. JMK (looked sharp in attack, will improve)
10. Toleman
11. Jackson
12. Elliott
13. R. Martin
14. Lichaa
15. RFM
16. CHN
17. C . Smith

Next in line OFa
Agree mate. Lichaa again looked slow and sluggish. He needs to be booted.

A few interesting things I noticed-

Jackson & Holland both switched to the left side & RFM switched to the right.......hhhhhmmmm
It looks like Foran has been pushed away from his preferred left side to cater for Lewis/Cogger on the left
And if Montoya plays at right centre, look for the Bulldogs right corridor to concede the most NRL tries this year.

As I cant see how Montoya could possibly be a strong enough defensive option for us at centre
Here is the team I would pick -

1. Meany
2. Chrichton
3. Holland
4. Hoppoate
5. R.Smith

6. Foran
7. Lewis

8. Tolman
9. JMK (we have been lacking so much in attack around the ruck with Liccha)
10. Napa
11. Jackson
12. RFM
13. Elliott

14. Cogger
15. Sue
16. Ogden
17. CHN

18. C.Smith
19. Martin

We finally have some depth, just lacking at centre.

Were you not impressed with Hopas performance and his contribution to our attack?
Hopoate is a very good athlete and footballer. However the modern fullback needs speed, and the ability to defend, and make adequate ball returns. (Brett Stewart)
Sadly Hopoate does not have speed. His defence is sometimes very ordinary. When he returns the ball, he constantly looks for someone to give it too,
as he knows he cannot finish a movement unless hes 10 metres from the line. Meaney has the necessary speed. He is still new and young.
He will develop, as Hopoate has reached his peak and wont improve. Saying that, I believe Hopoate has shed a few kilos so he might make up some lost ground.

Watch him in competition matches over season 2018, not a cameo in a meaningless 30minute trial-
Not a first grader
- poor defensively
-poor work rate
-poor decision making

Players of his ilk are a dime a dozen
Forget he’s related to Benji, would have never got a start

Some mixed performances over the weekend.
The good:
I was really happy with Foz and Lewis.
Chris Smith played great and will be pushing for contention though in a very stacked back row.
Napa put in massive workload.
Ogden was good.
R Smith and Holland looked great.
Hoppa had hands of silk.
Tolman looked rejuvenated, played well.
RFM played well.
Jesse Sue impressed.

Not so good:
Renouf disappointed. Didn't get involved enough and looked a little off the pace.
John Olive - WOW. Never to be seen again.
Okunbur needs more time, had some patches of good.

For mine;

1. Hoppa *
2. Smith
3. Holland
4. Monty *
5. Chricton
6. Foz
7. Lewis
8. Tolman
9. Lichaa
10. Napa
11. JJ
12. RFM
13. Elliot

14. Sue
15. Martin
16. CHN
17. Ogden

* Meaney has potential but Hoppa played really well. He needs a bit more time to hone his game.
I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a run at some stage though and push Hoppa to centre which squeezes Monty to ISP.

After a full pre season training, an opposed session and a trial game there's a few obvious selections and a few no so much;

1. Hopoate - is there really any doubt now.

Right side, the power running side, play flat and hit hard with short kicks behind the line, there's plenty of points on this side of the field.
2. Smith - never really a question.
3. Montoya - I thought he was effective and with Smith could make a dangerous combination of height and speed.
12. RFM - earned his spot.
6. Foran - in his make or break season, uninjured he's a no brainer.

Left side, the unpredictable side, they run lines, can play outside or cut back inside, kick long or short, hard for a defence to mark up against. Add Hopoate chiming in and it's a potent offence.
7. Lewis - again a no brainer.
11. Jackson - another no brainer.
4. Holland - also never really a question.
5. Crighton - signed for this spot and showed why.

The engine room,
8. Toleman - was never a doubt for me.
9. Lichaa or JMK - it's a toss up for me, neither has demanded that they be picked ........ so far.
10. Napa - signed for this spot and showed why.
13. Elliot - was never a doubt for me.

14. Sue - played hard, looked effective.
15. CHN - benefit of the doubt, hasn't impressed me so far, but has time.
16. Ogden - also a work in progress.
17. Fualalo or Tualau - we need a big guy off the bench.

Outsiders, if any one of the above blinks they will be in like Flynn.
Martin - if Holland's goal kicking slips or one of the other 2nd rowers doesn't kick on.
Toomaga - has potential.
Smith - the most likely to step up.
Cogger - I hope we don't need him because it means that one of the 2 has been injured.

When's the first game, can't wait.

Go Dogs

You've pretty much nailed it. I agree

I strongly suggest you take the time to watch the last 7 Bulldogs games and then try and claim that Hopoate is not the best option for fullback.

Go Dogs
100% Hoppa is the best option at fullback.
I was willing to put Meaney at no.1, but the trial game just reinforced the fact that Hoppa is our best fullback
