St George Illawarra's Jack De Belin is in custody at Wollongong police station.

It is understood the 27-year-old Dragons forward attended the station around 4pm on Thursday, where he presented himself to detectives.

De Belin, who played State of Origin for NSW in 2018, is believed to have attended the police station having been made aware that detectives wanted to speak to him as part of an investigation.

Maybe for American sports or the top soccer leagues thats the case, but NRL players aren't considered that highly with females, I have mates who have or currently play in the NRL, heck even one that has played origin and whilst they get attention its no where near as much as you mentioned. NRL stars just aren't big enough names or earn close to what stars from other sports earn to be able to attract that much attention.

The Dragons tried to get ahead of the game by asking former cop and club legend Craig Young to do some digging on the Jack De Belin case. We have been told he was given very little time by the police, who were busy forming their case.

In the lead-up to De Belin being charged, one of his confidantes gave an insight into how he was feeling. The source said: ‘‘The process is killing him.’’ He was referencing the fact that the NSW State of Origin winner had to tell his pregnant girlfriend what was about to happen. De Belin knew what was coming: his and his partner’s Instagram accounts were shut down before the story became public.

The Daily Telegraph reports de Belin has denied assaulting the woman when questioned by St George Illawarra officials.

He was last week excused from the NSW Blues Emerging Origin camp in Sydney as he prepares to face the charges against him.

The 27-year-old has been granted conditional bailed after being charged with the aggravated sexual assault in company of a 19-year-old as a result of an alleged incident in a Wollongong apartment just over a week ago.

De Belin has denied the allegations and will appear in Wollongong Local Court on February 12.

He was due to be part of the Blues team debrief and bonding session under the watchful eye of coach Brad Fittler on Friday however was given permission to sit it out.

The Dragons last week released a club statement to confirm they are treating the allegations seriously.

“The club is taking the matter very seriously and have been working with Jack and all relevant authorities, including the police and the NRL integrity unit, since this time,” a Dragons statement claimed.
