So considering apparently we still have issues in 2020, I decided to check out who we had, when they signed and what the potential issues could be.

This does not take into account players in 2019 (as clearly they will be gone / re-signed by then).

We dont have cap issues.. negotiating signatures of NRL players from rival teams isnt easy work in any circumstance..

you need to sell the club and vision and contract dollars also matters

Right now we could have 5million to blow on players but I would not be confident in our ability to recruit anyone of note even if we tried..

Rookie coach, Rookie players, finishing near bottom, minimal TPAs

the only upside to come to our club at moment is if your an upncoming player or your stuck behind others / forced to play out of position at your current club..

Hope not to many....

I don't think it'll be as hard as people are making out. With a bit of money to spend newcastle had no problems signing ponga, watson, pearce and many others and i doubt brown has huge drawing power.

What about Chris Smith and that young back rower from Parra Matt Doorey?

%100 spot on
Nothing against Dean pay I am a fan of his, my concern is his ability to attract big name players,
The other concern, does he need a better and experienced assistant coach with him ?

Exactly the point.

Newcastle couldnt attract anyone of note & had to wait patiently until those players u mentioned were released or sought a release because they were all stuck behind others at current clubs

All 3 left because they werent first choice
Pearce - behind Cronk
Ponga - behind Coote
Watson - behind Keary

Jason Hetherington coached the CQ Capras and Munster played for him he strongly recommended the Bulldogs sign him stating he was the best young prospect he had seen in a long time ‘ but the old board didn’t heed his advice so
He rang Bellamy and look where he is now FFS wake up !!

its pretty hard to tell how bad the 2020 cap situation is without knowing exactly how back ended the deals in the hasler/castle list here, i've got n doubt, some will look ridiculous

in saying that, we've released some big money players since, if we were under with those players, us fans have every right to expect some positive news for the 2020 season, otherwise what was the point.

100% right about Hethrington sending him our way. But I think it was Cleal the pie eater who rejected him and never returned Hethrington's phone calls.

Yeah but it's not like any of those players were unwanted. They all would've attracted big interest from other clubs. I think the players realise how quickly teams can go from the bottom of the ladder to the top so i don't really think it'll be a massive issue if we offer them good money.

I missed Smith and Doorey, but they aren't really relevant as not impacted backended contracts.

That's the point of why I made this thread. Potentially quite a lot of them.

Would probably be in the 8 if pearce didn't get injured which is a massive improvement from where they were.
