Margie McDonald Senior Reporter - Sun 22 Apr 2018, 11:16 AM

South Sydney forward Sam Burgess faces up to three matches on the sidelines if he is unable to clear himself of a careless high tackle charge.

The NRL match review committee on Sunday issued a grade two charge against the Rabbitohs lock for his 59th minute hit on Canberra halfback Aidan Sezer in Saturday's 42-22 win at Gosford.

That means he will miss two weekends, if he accepts the charge. If he fights it and loses, it will be three matches out because of carry-over points and loading from similar offences over the past two years.

Sunday's charge is Burgess' seventh in three seasons. That list includes a shoulder charge in April last year, where the 29-year-old was found not guilty at the judiciary.

His younger brother George Burgess also attracted the match review committee's attention with a careless high tackle charge for his 71st minute hit on Raiders forward Luke Bateman, but will not miss any games.

George has been issued with a $1,550 fine for an early plea, but that rises to $2,100 if he unsuccessfully appeals because he has two non-similar charges in the past two seasons.

...

Nothing for the punch on Tapine after the shot!!

Watch it at 0:05-0:07 at the link above. Clear left hook.

Poor widdle Sammy. Every time he attempts to tackle someone around the waist they go out of their way to get hit in the head or the neck.

NRL not mucking around with this one. The guy is a serial offender and if the best defence he could come up with in the case of J Moz was diving/ milking wonder how he will spin this one??

More charges in his career than a Mastercard during a Boxing Day sales he needs to learn that there is a definite difference between being tough and being a thug. I laugh at all the times he has been charged/ suspended when team mates , coach ( and Russell) have stood up for him in saying it is not in his nature to trip, hit, elbow, tackle high or grip some testicles. Might not be in his nature but he continues to do these things......and on a minimum 12 occasions during his 8 years in the NRL three in 2013 alone (and one after the test in October), plus a few more in 2010 his first year and seven since he returned from Rugby Union.

Im not familiar with the nrl match review committee rules, but wouldnt you get penalised higher for repeat offence or do you get charged based on single offence?

This is not about Burgess but gives you an idea as to how they formulate charges...

Fucking pissweak ... instead of loading, if you get pinged for the same offence the points should double for it.
