One of the Tour de France winners (I think it might have been Miguel Indurian) had some freak stats on his body, including a lung capacity much bigger than the average joe. Of course he worked his ringer off training etc and deserved his 5 titles, but it does make you think if he had the same lung capacity of the other cyclists whether he would have been as successful.
I honestly believe it's rampant in sport now anyways. There was a Mexican Dr who worked in Spain and he claimed that he supplied all the real Madrid and Barcelona players with it (and also many Olympians too). He also said that drug tests were decades behind the agents given to athletes to hide drug use and that they'd never detect drug use.

Of course being Madrid and Barcelona, two Spanish icons, The noise on this disappeared very quickly (it did go to trial) but at the time I couldn't find any articles on the outcome of the cases.

Also carl Lewis bitched about Ben Johnson's 100m win and years later it pops out into the open that carl Lewis was on it too.

I reckon just let them take, they do anyways, it's going to reduce injuries and provide a better on field product

Had moved on from the subject, but seen this and thought some may find it of interest.
Cool. Lets open up a clinic for every addiction out there, cant show favoritism to prohibited drugs. Set up a gambling clinic where addicts can gamble the governments (tax payer) money and reap the awards. Sex clinics for sex addicts (sign me up). Fuck it, lets have a clinic where paedophiles can go where the govt provides at least kiddy porn for relief!!! But dw, we'll have a counsellor at each one to try rehabilitate them.

Where does it start? Where does it stop? Is one addiction more important than another?

Not practical. Not fair. Would cost millions. Wont stop demand. Instead of lining the pockets of illegal criminal, you will line the pockets of "legal criminals".

Methadine program have utterly failed and still costing millions a year.

Ignorant to think league isn't immune from recreational drug use. These athletes are cashed up and are at the end of the day, a subset of society. And drugs is a part of our society.

But gotta be more discrete.. can't be racking up on a street!

Todd Greenberg is an absolute disgrace. Simply the shitiest administrator ever. He is an agenda driven turd. He said sweet f all re the debacle of city v country. The Storm & Titans have suspended Bromwich & Proctor for 2 matches. Big bloody deal. He almost ended the career of Mitchell Pearce. The cock needs to step in and pretend to act like a NRL CEO

Yeah sending them to ESL and rugby for a few years to make those competitions look bad and further feed the players addictions. Then bring them back as a washed up has been just isn't working any more Lol.

That's because you are treating withdrawl symptoms with an equally dangerous drug.

You've only go to look at the zombies that used to parade around Main St Blacktown coming from the methadone clinic at Blacktown Hospital to see how bad an idea it was/is.

Pretty sure they moved the entire thing out of Mt Druitt Hospital/St Marys now.

I don't know what type of clinics you have attended in the past but the idea is not to do more of what is harming you. You would go to reduce the behaviour for the good of you and the community. It starts everywhere that it can be helpful. It could actually be very practical. The idea is to divert money that is wasted in the legal system back to the health system. Your tax dollars are already being used, the only question is how significant a dent in the problem it is having. Demand only stops when you educate the younger generation to not take it up in the first place, and try to help those already addicted break free.

You can also give someone who is overdosing a shot and bring them back to consciousness, but theres no chance with a drunk. I even had a nate who passed out, threw up and then choked on his spew and died. RIP tristan.
My condolences. Dealing with something so senseless is very difficult.

Thanks mate. I apreciate it. In my responses in this thread i am simply offering a different perspective. I love to have a drink from time to time, but it is still a drug that causes countless problems in society, and i feel this fact is often conveniently forgotten by anti drug crusaders.

What are peoples thoughts on this?

Cocaine and other drugs can have (even the most minute) increase in performance.

I honestly believe the NRL need to get strict on this.

If you are caught in the possession of, or in the act of consuming any recreational drug, and charged/under investgation, you are stood down till court/charges are pressed.

If found guilty, your contract should be terminated effective immediately and 5 year ban placed on the player in the NRL.

What role models do these players set, when they are snorting shit up their noses!
Recreational drugs should be more lenient, like marijuana, cocaine. Ffs they're just some party drugs. banning players over drugs like these are more politics about rather then them being performance enhancing cheaters... although I agree if a drug like cocaine or ice is taken before a game it should be treated as performance enhancing.
But if a few players are out smoking some joints, having a few lines honestly it is hardly any of our business. Just let them party ffs most are young and dumb. So the chances of putting a complete stop to it are slim to none.
Performance enhancers should be an automatic 10 year ban fuck em they don't even deserve a second chance, but for recreational drugs 5 yrs is way too harsh, I think a fine and a few games suspension should be enough
I'm sure most if not all players want nothing to do with being role models, Ill make sure my kids don't look up to these meat heads as role models, ffs who would want their kid looking up to NRL players anyway? There are real heroes in our society, people that make a real difference these should be people our younger generation should look up to.
We've been told the only way to stop drugs is locking people up and throwing away the key. Is it working though?
There is just as many drugs IN the system (gaol) than there is out on the streets I promise you that

They all do it. I use to have footage of a couple of players. Very high profile players mostly Dogs doing lines off a girls leg on the top floor of the old Palace Hotel in Coogee. Security was ten meters away but were all mates with half the players and the guys I was with. No fucks given.

Unless it's medicinal under an NRL-approved doctor, then yes, zero tolerance.

Its the same concepts and rationale... spoken to a number of addicts and pedophiles in my time...

Treat drug as a health condition. Why not other issues with the same concepts. Its an extreme example but relates.

Interesting as to whether an employer can sack an employee for drug use.

I know this is a British publication but surely principles would be pretty much the same.

https://www.theguardian.com/money/2005/sep/24/careers.work1

The legality of dismissal for recreational drug use hinges on a gamut of laws that cover health and safety, employment, human rights and data protection. If a case of unfair dismissal is brought before an employment tribunal, the onus is on the employer to prove that drugs have had a detrimental impact on the employee's ability to do the job.

"An employer can stipulate about behaviour in private. This is known as a moral clause and is standard in many celebrity contracts," says Brian Palmer, an employment lawyer for Charles Russell. "For example, it would be understandable that a children's TV company would not want to have a known cocaine fiend as a presenter."

Even if an employee is convicted of a drug offence, "the employer would still have to prove that dismissal was justified", says Palmer. "The argument of bringing an employer's name into disrepute would only be valid if that employer was mentioned during the legal proceedings."

Take it from me, Drug test fail is instant dismissal.

If I had a dollar for every **** i terminated that failed one Id have enough for a bulldogs membership.
