Surprised he got cleared as that is showing massive disrespect towards the referee. On more than one occasion last year a player has been suspended for touching the ref, in a positive gesture, unlike this

No real force in the throw but he meant to do it.

Thought that Hurrell was lucky too. The NRL wants players to behave off the field yet they allow them to misbehave on. I thought that the rules for contrary conduct was supposed to be the same in the 9's as in the NRL proper.

Yes Steve Matai got a weeks suspension for touching a ref on the arm. Perhaps this is the Nrl's new "line in the sand." You can't argue with a ref, you can't swear at a ref, you can't touch a ref, you can't criticize a ref in a press conference......But you can throw a ball at one.

How does this compare with James Graham mouthing off at the ref? I would have thought deliberately lobbing the ball - no matter how soft - is worthy of a few weeks, minimum.

Especially after Todd Greenberg's gigantic crusade on respecting the refs. Everytime something like this happens Todd is just shown up to be the loud mouthed inept fool that he really is. The thought of him becoming NRL CEO is frightening. There were a few incidences of players mouthing off at the refs or even swearing at them after Black Friday.....but those players were not even charged let alone suspended.

Looks like words are mightier than the ball. Speaking in a condescending way to an official does show disrespect but throwing a ball at one does also.

Zero punishment sends exactly the wrong message to young fans and players.
