Knock it down and build apartments? I don't even know where to start with that one so I am not going to bother.
Moore park simply can't handle any more capacity than is there already.
Why don't they put all resources ie dogs, parra, wsw, panthers to make anz one of the best stadiums in the world? If the stadium is that good I am ok with sharing it.
FFS Anz is only 25 mins from central - I don't see the problem really.

You lef toff the "h", but here is the full article (it's very long, but it kind of needs the pictures to explain it):

Olympic venue’s new field of dreams: ANZ Stadium’s $350 million redevelopment plan

  • EXCLUSIVE JOHN LEHMANN EDITOR-AT-LARGE
  • THE DAILY TELEGRAPH
  • NOVEMBER 18, 2014 12:00AM

A $350 million redevelopment plan for a fully-roofed ANZ Stadium would enable sports fans to sit within five metres of the action, with new grandstands turning Sydney’s biggest venue into a true rectangular ground.
Under the ambitious plan revealed to The Daily Telegraph, the former Olympic stadium would also be surrounded by a dynamic entertainment zone filled with bars, cafes and restaurants.

While the stadium’s *capacity would remain above 80,000, the venue’s top-level seating tiers could be curtained off using a hi-tech lighting system to create a more intimate atmosphere for smaller matches.
The design includes a *retractable roof made of a translucent membrane which allows sunlight through and is capable of closing in 20 minutes. It would weatherproof all events and allow the stadium to attract more big music acts.

ANZ chief executive Daryl Kerry said the plan would give Sydney “one of the greatest sports and entertainment stadiums in the world”.
The stadium’s private-sector owners and operators are lobbying the Baird government for about $250 million to modernise the 15-year-old venue. It is understood the stadium owners, Stadium Australia Group, would be prepared to put in $100 million if its ownership lease is extended beyond 2031 when it is due to hand back the venue to the government.

The stadium, built as the athletics arena for the 2000 Sydney Olympics, is often criticised for not having enough seats close to the action.

But Mr Kerry said the seating at both ends of the ground would be replaced with double-deck stands, which could be moved to within five metres of the field to create a perfect rectangle for rugby league, rugby union and soccer.

He said fans would be as close, if not closer, to the action behind the goals than they were at Moore Park’s Allianz, Brisbane’s Suncorp and London’s Wembley stadiums. ANZ would still be able to be configured into a circular ground for AFL and cricket or a world athletics meet.

“Sydney’s sporting infrastructure has fallen behind other states and major cities in the Asia-Pacific region,’’ Mr Kerry said. “While ANZ Stadium has served Sydney well, it must undergo a significant redevelopment to ensure it continues to attract major events and meet the expectations of today’s players and fans.”

Bringing more night-life entertainment options to Sydney Olympic Park is also seen as critical to attracting more spectators. The cost of developing the surrounding entertainment precinct shown in the plans — which would allow fans to enter the stadium at different levels on futuristic-looking ramps — is not included in the $350 million price tag.

But Mr Kerry indicated the stadium operators would be prepared to relinquish its commercial rights around the stadium to allow the government to attract private-sector backers to fund “a world-class event destination that has a life 365 days a year”.

A sports stadium battle is set to erupt ahead of the March state election, with the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust, which operates Allianz, and Parramatta and Penrith stadium bosses lobbying for hundreds of millions of dollars to fund upgrades.

The government’s stadium strategy released in 2012 said future investments in Sydney should be focused on ANZ and Allianz stadiums and suggested a smaller stadium be built to service western Sydney or an existing venue be redeveloped. Sport Minister Stuart Ayres said sports stadium funding decisions would be guided by the State Infrastructure Strategy, which is expected to be released within weeks.

The Stadium Australia group built the Olympic stadium at a cost of $690 million, of which the government contributed about $100 million.

ANZ Stadium has appointed Australia’s largest privately owned engineering and construction firm, Laing O’Rourke, which acted as program managers for the London 2012 Olympics, to carry out the proposed redevelopment.

I wonder if season ticket holders will be pushed closer to the action or they will sell the newer seats

Another day, another attempt by the privately owned ANZ Stadium to subvert the will of a community that wants Parramatta Stadium upgraded.

ANZ Stadium, which was once acquired by a consortium involving current AFL Chairman Mike Fitzpatrick, is pushing yet again for a multi-hundred million dollar upgrade, paid for by the taxpayer yet intended to profit the private companies who own the stadium. Those private companies have generously offered to pay $100 million, and in exchange would receive $250 million in taxpayer funding and an extension to the ownership rights that expire in 2031.

This 'deal' is akin to the teenager promising he'll get a job at Maccas for a few months to save up for a car, as long as their parents put in triple what they save up and never ask them to take their little siblings to the shops. There is no benefit to this plan for anyone but the owners of ANZ Stadium and the politicians wanting to get their hands on the modern form of kickbacks and corruption, the lucrative "directorship" and "consultancies" heaped upon them once they leave Parliament by those who they gave favour to during their time in office.

Powerful lobbyists with a well drilled PR machine in step with a pliant mainstream media have a well worn tactic when anyone should dare to question the logic of handing over what would likely be close to half a billion dollars in exchange for $100 million. They put out another flashy set of photoshopped pictures, a new 3D rendered video along with some quotes about a plan that is "revealed" to a local newspaper.

The press releases cry "It will have a roof! Free wifi! One of the greatest stadiums in the world! It's 15 years old! Moving stands! It must be upgraded to keep attracting major events!"

It's been done four times in the last 2 years.

The problem is that nothing short of a knockdown rebuild into a proper rectangular stadium will give Sydney the marquee stadium it deserves. That is a currently impossible situation. Because of this, I believe that no more money should be spent on ANZ until it returns to public ownership and can be torn down or perhaps set fire to like Cumberland Oval in 1981.

An upgrade won't fix the awful lines of sight.

It won't fix the mountain treks up to the top tier.

It won't fix the fact that Cityrail don't properly cater for major events leaving 1000's waiting ages to leave.

It won't fix the outrageous cost of everything in the precinct.

It won't fix the fact the place has no atmosphere either inside or outside the stadium.

It won't fix the turf from being ruined by AFL, Cricket, monster trucks, music concerts and just generally being one of the worst surfaces in the country.

It won't fix the place being somewhere no-one wants to go for anything but the very biggest events. The press releases re-badged as news reports carefully hide the fact that the full redevelopment will require much more than the $250 million being lobbied for.

ANZ chief executive Daryl Kerry was right when he said "Sydney’s sporting infrastructure has fallen behind other states and major cities in the Asia-Pacific region".

Where he is wrong is the idea that we can fix that issue by putting lipstick on the pig that is ANZ. Instead of spending money on a privately owned half-pregnant 'multi-sport' monstrosity, we can fix the problem of our sporting infrastructure by focusing on local stadiums for teams who actually want to be in their community alongside their members.

One of these local community developments must be to rebuild Parramatta Stadium to the level it deserves. A rectangular stadium that accommodates the two major tenants, the Wanderers & Eels. 35,000 seats, with safe standing that can improve the atmosphere for football matches while bringing back cheaper tickets and an old school "hill" mentality for Parramatta Eels matches.

Parramatta Stadium is regularly filled to capacity, and is far older than ANZ, with inferior facilities. The success of the Western Sydney Wanderers makes upgrading or rebuilding Parramatta Stadium the obvious choice, but not the one the politicians in charge of the country & the state want to offer up to their corporate paymasters.

ANZ Stadium does not need an upgrade. It is up to us to make our voices heard. When the Wanderers were first being formed we rejected the idea of playing at ANZ Stadium for the reasons listed above. The football supporters who pushed view that were proven right with the success and renowned atmosphere that has been built at Wanderers games in just a few short years. It is now time for the Government to invest in a public facility for a change, and to help the Wanderers grow even further at Parramatta.

I call on members of Parliament to once and for all to declare which side of the sporting fence they sit on.

Parramatta Stadium, a facility that is part of our community.

Or ANZ Stadium, a facility which is the very antithesis of community.

FACT: Parramatta Stadium is a shithole. Parking is non existent, and walking from the station is a pain in the arse.

People need to get the F over Parra Stadium, as ANZ is a faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar better option any day of the week.

Lol at WSW... Let's not improve the best and largest stadium we have that a tonne of teams including Bulldogs, Souths, Tigers, NSW Origin use so that Parramatta and WSW can have a better ground... Please spare me.

Also they should be honest... They just would make less money at ANZ... Once it is a rectangular stadium it will be better than Parramatta in just about every way imaginable.

Thinking the same thing myself to be honest. In the last couple of years we've been provided with videos similar to this with slightly different plans each time, and obviously nothing has never come to light.

As much as I'd like for something like this to happen, I just don't see it.... at least not unless we get something like a FIFA World Cup etc. to warrant the need for it.

ANZ are much more than naming partners though, and certanily have the cash and collateral money to do it.

Think of how much money it could reap their investors too!

Well after attending various events at ANZ stadium over the last 15 years, I can say that stadium is an absolute shithole.

ANZ can be a great stadium when full but farken shit when its not. We are not going to fill that dump every game.

The parking is overpriced, there are heaps of free parking around the precinct but its quite a hike to get to the stadium. You spend 30min-1hr inside the car park after the game and will take you ages to get into the ground before the game.

For those that drink, the brewery is shit, its not big enough and it takes a while for fans to get their beers for pre-match drinks.

You'll line up for 20min at Maccas/Oportos/Subway, surrounding eateries are ok but are overpriced.

PT to and from Olympic Park is shocking.

The whole area is dead and not lively.

Ever since I have been going to the games to Parra stadium for Wanderers, I have always underestimated Parra stadium and the area surrounding it, great eateries, great bars, there is heaps of parking in Parra but they are not as bad and expensive as Olympic Park.

If the Wanderers do get forced to ANZ Stadium, when it comes booking and scheduling, they will be considered a low priority.

Don't really disagree with what you said. For small games that draw lesser crowds parramatta is probably the better option. But that doesn't mean we should be spending money to improve it rather than upgrade to a hopefully state of the art rectangle stadium.

Western Sydney needs a proper rectangular stadium that is and should be only for RL & football znd AFL proof, similar to AAMI park/Cbus Stadium that can cater 1 or 2 NRL teams and the Wanderers.

ANZ stadium is already over used as NRL teams are chasing the cash with guaranteed $100k per game, swans and giants playing their marquee AFL games and likewise with the waratahs.

I disagree... Nothing wrong with a multi purpose stadium. Provided it can deliver a good experience to fans of all that use it. At the moment it is failing in that regard. Hopefully the upgrades can fix it.
