Which areas need improvement from last year and last weeks game ? (Do not mention HB)

1. Our rush up to the line defence from our backs inside our 30m line. We got caught out by the raiders, rabbitohs, storm last year and the cowboys did us last week.
When our outside backs rush in the kick goes in behind and its try time. I think this is a big issue this year as North Q, has already pinpointed that out. Storm did in the GF and the raiders did at the back end of last season.

2. Tony Williams - Looks Fat and Flat. I think he should have a look at Papalii and Hoffman.

3. Michael Ennis must improve his running game out of dummy half. Is it just me or have the injuries taken the life out of him? (Looks like its taking his mouth away slowly)

I think we still need to use that short passing game we were using last season (although not having Barba, Graham, Kasiano and Pritchard contributes toward that), Newcastle tried it last night and it still proved to be effective. Funny how Bennett always looks at what we are doing, more than anyone else:grinning:

I saw signs of the short passing game last week when the ball was shifted to the right side. Trying to incorporate new forwards into that system was always going to take time. I expect to see this executed better each week.

First 20 minutes our play was good. Mistakes and penalties were our problem from then on. Keating has to keep a cooler head, he kept trying to play catch up with miracle plays no one knew were coming. I remember he toed it through their in goal in the 2nd half to no one while 4 guys to his left just stopped and stared at him.

5th tackle options were woeful. We never even looked like scoring when we were behind. We have one of the best leapers in the NRL with Inu. Atleast try putting up a bomb towards him or getting a repeat set of 6 or something....

And our disipline was terrible too. Too many penalties and too much drop ball.

Good thing is it was only our first game and we know what we have to improve on.

Dramatic improvements in our kicking game would be the first step.

T-rex definitely doesn't look fat haha and we still don't know what type of role des wants him to play, i doubt people would have been as critical of his performance had he gotten that ball down, also he will need time to adjust to being an 80 minute player

Didnt Trex mention that he was fitter than he has ever been?
Under Des, i dont think many (if any) players will be unfit.

Kicking game, 5th tackle options, and line speed. Oh and the guys wearing the number 7.

Seems a little silly not to talk about the halfback considering that's the ONLY reason we didn't win a Premiership last year IMHO

With the exception of some drop ball and poor penalties (easier fixed) we have no other problems

Our forwards are strong, skilfull, fit ... Tick
Our backline is both defensively and offensively strong, good mix of speed, skill.... Tick
Our depth and interchange is a very strong feature of our team... Tick
Our five eight is brilliant, love watching him play... Tick
Our hooker/captain is also brilliant... Tick

Our halfback, questionable. No disrespect, cause he is a good player but the average opposition team is no longer good, they are great.

Every 2nd week you will taking on either a South Sydney, Melbourne Storm, NQ Cowboys, etc ... a simple solid halfback won't get the job done anymore :(

We don't need a superstar at half... we just need a consistently good half back. Our team is built around the work that our forwards do. Middle of the ruck plays, tip ons... etc.

Regarding Tony Williams - he looks very fit, looks lighter and more damaging. On the weekend though we found our selves coming out of our own half 75% of the time due to poor kicking game, lack of possession, back to back sets and poor 5th tackle options. If we can fix that up - we'll be right.

I thought that last year, until we walked away from the GF holding nothing but our d!ck in our hand

Don't get me wrong, we don't need a Thurston or Cronk, but we do need something ESPECIALLY without Barba, the halfback does need to be a little more that just solid/consistent IMO

I'm hoping Trent is capable of that

One thing from Sat night that was a HIGHLIGHT for me was the 3 tackles Klemmer made form marker. Special.

* The short passing game puts uncertainty in the defence - its a must

* Attacking options (other than the dummy runner) must be use in the opponents 10 - 20 metre area

* 6th tackle options - type of kick or to run the ball

and most important

Know what the referees want and do it! Just two or three penalties on the run will kill us
