It was widely considered that Williams would depart the Roosters at the end of this season and return to rugby union in New Zealand. But there's a new twist to Williams continuing his rugby league and boxing career.
Instead of playing in the rugby league World Cup on October 25, Williams is likely to wait until November before officially announcing his 2014 deal at the Roosters.
The delay would allow Williams to continue his boxing career, with plans for up to three off-season bouts.
Roosters chief executive Brian Canavan confirmed the club's intentions to keep Williams beyond his current one-year deal.
"We want to make him comfortable playing rugby league and comfortable wearing a Roosters jersey first," Canavan said.

"We want him to be excited about continuing in rugby league, but that is something that has no time frame. Hopefully he wants to stay."
Williams is reported to have earned $1.7 million in a 12-game stint with Japanese rugby club Panasonic Wild Cats and by not officially signing a new deal at the Roosters, he can explore those options again.
The Roosters originally attempted to sign Williams to a four-year deal.
Sources close to Williams have indicated that the gifted athlete will switch back to rugby union in 2015, ahead of the World Cup to be hosted by England.
Williams was not scheduled to officially join the Roosters until February 18, but he volunteered to start a week early.
"He made the offer to start early," Canavan said. "He is coming in on Monday, which is a good thing for us."
Williams suffered a pectoral injury during his rugby stint in Japan and will be examined by medical staff following his controversial heavyweight bout against South African Francois Botha on Friday night in Brisbane.
Roosters staff have kept in close contact with Williams since snaring the 108kg forward and are confident his boxing training has him in peak fitness.
The Auckland product is expected to make his first appearance for the Tri-colours on February 23, when the Roosters take on the Wests Tigers in the Foundation Cup, their final pre-season trial.
Several Roosters players will make the trip to Belmore today to watch feeder club, the Newtown Jets, take on the Bulldogs.
Williams is not expected to attend, avoiding what could prove to be an ugly showdown with Bulldogs fans.

Does anyone really care about this guy? I'm betting that he will be injured for much of the season.

Ted Bundy would feel comfortable in a rorters jersey, so sonnny rigged williams will have no issues.

Fark I am over channel nein advertising that ****** every 5 minutes....

Dunny Bills contract just bothers me ....

When you pay for a guy like T-rex for example...you are basically paying his contract for 12 months..
and he cant do anything outside his Bulldog contract.....

So out of the 500K (as an example) .... 200K of that would be covering his pre-season training....

Dunny Bill comes along... is basically contracted for just 6 months , and gets paid 500K (again an example)
..... if he had the same constraints as T-rex and was paid for 12 months , that would be 1 million....

The Rorters...through this bull**** loop hole of Dunny Bill being off contract, basically get a 1 million dollar
player for 500K .... and are not spending any contract money on pre-season training for him....

It was a circus when he signed for this year, everybody knew he had, but it wasnt signed off til his
jap yawnion payments and his boxing money had been exempt from the rorters salary cap....

This bull**** loop hole if not closed , will open up a can of worms, players like Benji have already
tried to play Jap rugby in the off season yet been denied.... you will find his next contract being
a 1 year deal... where he will do the same **** as what Dunny Bill is doing , more players will
follow.....

Lastly... how do the Rorters sign up a player where the manager isn't accredited with the NRL ???

I wonder if signing one year deals allows SBW to de-register as an NRL player after the season, get a nice little transfer to the bank account from Uncle Nick of say a few hundred grand outside the cap. Then after a bit of media posturing and pretending to be indecisive, he accepts another one year deal with the Roosters for the bull**** amount of $550k (he gets paid the same as Chris Sandow and we're supposed to believe he's happy with it..). It would be interesting if this loophole could be achieved within the rules of the game.

I also wonder if in the couple of years leading up to his "handshake agreement" he was paid anything by Uncle Nick so that he'd be happy to sign for well under his perceived market value, for a figure not to dissimilar to the one he walked out on his previous club for 5 years ago.

The mind boggles at the "possibilities"...

he would of negotiated his own contract
The guy is as thick as four planks of wood and can't even tie up his own shoelaces. There's no way on earth that he would have negotiated his own contract.

This 1 year contract thing and letting him play union in between seasons is bullcrap. So does this mean we can sign a player on a 1 year deal, offer him a job at Canterbury Leagues for 500k during the off-season then re-sign him on a 1 year contract for the following season. What's the difference?
