A week in the life Bulldogs NRL captain Andrew Ryan

By Nick Walshaw

SO YOU reckon NRL players should go out and get themselves a job, eh?

Think they should shift some bricks. Cart a pile of roof tiles. Anything, basically, to get those overpaid backsides off the lounge and away from the latest X-Box game?

Well, speaking for the defence, The Daily Telegraph today provides an exclusive and incredibly revealing look into the life of respected Canterbury skipper Andrew Ryan.

Here is Bobcat's diary entries from his recent return to hometown Dubbo for a Bulldogs trial match. The result is a chaotic swirl of fundraisers, training sessions, elbows to the head from son Jett and media shoots with Matty Johns. The old bloke even finds time to celebrate another birthday.

Sunday

12.30am: Get home from Wollongong.

7.30-8am: Get kids up and dressed, quick takeaway breakfast on the run.

8.30am: Medical and stretch.

9.50am: Double-decker bus over to fan day (daughter Lily came for the ride and loved it).

10-12pm: Fan day at Overflow Park, Homebush.

1-3pm: Lunch with Hodgo, Greeny, Daniel Harrison and a couple of fans Roni and Hani who won a competition to eat with "hit em up Hodgo" at Concertos Homebush.

4pm: Pick up the family at the in-laws at Winston Hills then drive home.

5pm: Michael Hodgson moves back in downstairs at my place.

6pm: Order crust pizza which is unbelievable.

7-9pm: Put kids to bed, clean up and shut down.

Monday

3am: Daughter Lily wakes up and jumps in our bed wanting milk. Son Jett ends up in there as well. Feet and elbows in the face!

6.15am: Up and get ready, pack kit. Unbelievably excited because it's the start of the week for Dubbo trial!

6.45am: Me and Hodgo head to Gorilla Pit at Miranda to meet car pool general Luke Patten and Bryce Goodwin.

7.30am: Arrive at Belmore. Communications manager Polly McCardell calls about round 1 promo: Beyond Blue fight against depression.

7.45am: Get strapped and get out on the field.

8.30am: Start training footy and fitness. Meant to be 37 today. Probably 47 in Dubbo!

10.30am: Ice baths and showered up.

11am: Feed at GT cafe Homebush with the boys.

11.40-1pm: Physiotherapy then weights.

2pm: Meeting with CEO Todd Greenberg, coach Kev Moore, media man Frank Barrett and senior players group re Dubbo trip.

4pm: Head home and make calls to a few producers at Matty Johns' company re filming in Dubbo for a piece on the upcoming show.

4.30-6.30pm: Bath the kids, have dinner and put them to bed.

7.30pm: Speak to Franky about Dubbo and Marie Moore's funeral plans.

8pm: Relax with wife Olivia before bed. She complains that I spend all my time on the phone.

Tuesday

6.30am: Get up and head to Cronulla for walk with Hodgo, swim then brekky with the boys.

8.30am: Drive to Homebush.

9.30am: Senior players cut up video for team review of trial game against Dragons.

11-1.30pm: Club mock trial.

1.30-4pm: Head home, make some calls and emails and do bookwork for my business Cityscapes Landscapes.

Yes it is. FMD that's the most annoying spelling lol

And considering that he's so busy, I'm surprised he was mentally stable and chatty when I had lunch with him. He is honestly one of the best blokes you will meet.

LOL@4pm on the First Sunday. I don't think he drove back home :p
