as a nurse, you really can't use many excuses.

'explosive diarrhoea' always wins for me. if you say explosive it freaks them out lol.
if not, 'gyanaecological problems'.

if in doubt, be trendy and say you have swine flu and you've started the tamiflu. you're only on the stuff for 5 days, so if you say you're on day 2 (after being diagnosed the previous night of course), you can't possibly be out.
