tbh thats exactly what i was thinking too. im just sick to death of what others tell me.
and it isnt just about MY career in general....its about the decisions that people have to make day in and day out.

its like chocolate...my heart says yes but my brains says no. LOL

slats- thanks for your insight ....always really wise, and i agree with you about the issue of doing what you have a passion and a drive for....i dont want to live my life counting down the minutes until i go home.

MajnOOn-im not saying i will never make it..im just saying there is a high chance or failure and im a stubborn proud perfectionist who wouldnt be able to deal with that easily. LOL...but thanks.

Leesee- are you enjoying nursing? do you want to specialise in any specific area?....a friends mum is a mental health nurse in the psych ward...she reckons it is pretty daunting.

Nothing personal but if you need other peoples advice on such a general issue it cant be a good sign.

I guess the idea is to have a strong mind and will so that you know when to be smart enough to go with your brain so that at some point in time you have the opportunity to realistically go with your heart.

Life isn't a nicely scripted movie, but if you play it smart you'll eventually get perhaps your piece of whatever you want, your own business as oppossed to always having to work for a boss etc.

tbh i wasnt meant to make this 100% about me ...and im not silly enough to decided my life path on a forum. but i DO find it comforting to see what other people would do. the generalised topic you speak of was meant to be exactly that. what OTHERS would do.

i understand what you are saying about the strong mind part.....and i personally beleiev that can only be achieved when i am heading in one direction and have gained wisdom through simply living a little bit more.
i have never expected to have a steel strong mind at 17...anyone who does has put enormous pressure on themself.
but you are right....your brain can get you places. LOL

yeah im loving nursing. don't ask me why lol. my mum's a nurse and is distraught about the whole thing.
i'm hoping to go into midwifery, or even better, rural nursing. surgical would be good, but everyone wants to do it.
once i finish, i have every intention to piss off out of the country and go everywhere i can before i'm restricted by age (with visas and shiznit).
the one thing i really want to do? go and work with the mediciens sans frontieres in sudan and russia.

to be honest......use a combination of both...
i have been lucky ...i got to play professional sport..(squash)...
but it was a heart choice....
why....it was a struggle in the first couple of years..(financially, family wise..)
but after those first couple of years...going "you idiot...why.."...
now...i am so much better for the experience..not necessarily financially...but so many and i mean so many doors opened up on the way...and i am on path to complete a clinical and sport psychology degree...plus i have met and talked to so many elite athletes across a number of sports....
moral...there will always be sacrifices when making any decision...
way up what would make you more happy as a person and the decision becomes oh so easy...

anyways, i wanted to do law when was in high school, till i realised it takes years to get anywhere. i wanted to alot of things when i was at school, but no matter what millions of things you want to do, there's always one thing that stays with you the whole time. thats your passion. for me it was business, thats why i did it.

at the end of the day its your life. you're the one who has to live with it, not anyone else.
