The great Crichton to Fullback or Centre debate rages on.
To me it’s a non argument either way, here we are a team struggling at the bottom of the ladder, pitiful defence, pitiful attack, last in nearly every stat in the game, we go out and buy arguably the best attacking/defensive centre in the game … and say … yea, arrr … we might try you at fullback see how that turns out …
Most have seen him play FB, and those that have would say he’s going to need time to see if he can become a top FB …. so instead of having a rockstar attacking/defensive right centre and that position now filled with an elite player, we instead cross our fingers and hope another player can learn to get better in a different position so they can do a top job for us there …
Meanwhile wouldn’t we still be lacking an elite attacking/defensive right centre ?
I think it highlights one of our biggest problems … let’s move you here, let’s manufacture you into this position, your playing good footy on the left side so let’s move you to the right side see how you go there to accommodate this other player … it’s ludicrous …
If Crichton is tried at FB and the experiment fails, he’s lost a whole preseason building cohesion in his elite position with his winger and outside backs.
If you are lucky enough to buy an elite player, wouldn’t it make sense to put them in their elite position where they’ll be able to play to their proven strengths, tick that position of as filled and then move onto the next position that needs attention until you have a top competitive squad …
The question to ask is, why wasn’t SC the Panthers FB, because he’s an elite centre, leave him there and now find an elite FB, then you have 2 elite players in 2 positions … it’s not rocket science …
Those saying it’s all about the higher pay packet, need to check what other elite centres are on … what we’ve offered him is on par …
