We desperately need internal solutions.

I am sick of looking at this cooked player market. Have to go back to being a development club like the Storm. Poach the odd player here and there. Bulk of the squad has to come through our system.

Which is exactly what is happening under Gus.
The problem is it takes time.

We all know how scarce and overpriced good halfbacks are and a great example is Ben Hunt, most agree he is a better hooker than a half but clubs including ours are prepared to pay a kings ransom for this signature,
Three month our situation left me with the though of this DESPERATE HALFBACK SOLUTION and Flanagan is part of it...
Since switching to hooker Flanagan has shown good form, why not start him at 9 and give Mahoney the 7 jersey ?
A little bit lighter and fitter Mahoney could become the answer for the HALFBACK we desperately need, positional changes had successfully been done before including to some of the greats of the game...
What have we got to loose ???
All it takes is VISION & BRAVERY

Anyone looks good in the Penrith system. How did Cogger go in SL?
Wasn't favoured by Ian Watson at Huddersfield as coach favoured Tui Lolahea the dud in the halves instead. If you follow SL you would see that Watson has Huddersfield in terrible form, have gone backwards.

This is 100% what we are doing atm. This process is the long game and it will take several years to fully take hold. If we stick with this we we once again become a powerhouse.

My concerns are that it seems to be “100%” the plan. We need areas filled from the outside for the now and next year. Whether it is a cooked player market or not. Players that would help our growth with the correct identification processes are available if wanted.

Bringing in youth and developing our own is the way forward. Reality is though, it takes time. We need to strengthen the middle. We need a an game manager. These two areas are not currently coming through our system. Talent identification is equally as important knowing when you need to fill areas that are not coming through pathways. Otherwise players can be promoted to early. Careers can be ruined before they start.

Go and get players like:
Eddie Blacker
Jordan McLean
Hame Sele
Braydon Trindall

Add this style of player to our development program we Will improve and be competitive.

Sticking with internal only will see us several years battling it out down near the bottom.

My take is we desperately need an experienced 7 for 1-2 years until Oloapu, Rajab or BBO come good. We’ve traditionally gone that way over the years whether that be Stuart in the late 90s, tricky trindall in the early 00s, Kimmorley in the late 00s and you could even argue Foran (who I maintain was great for us, just horror run with injuries and surrounded by a garbage squad).

A Mitchell Pearce or even Townsend would do absolute wonders for our team and Burton. Just for a season or 2 until the young blokes are ready and properly develop their games in NSW Cup.

No 7 will want to come to this club, it’s a rabble and we will keep missing out, may as well get brooks now. Even he will be a loss. We need an experienced veteran for a year or two. And that’s the clear an cut of it. For far too long we have had so many makeshift players. Also let some good ones go. Getting harder to make the doggs attractive to players.

if we do happen to get some they come for the easy pay rise and to be last for a few years, if they last that long !!! It’s crazy the way things are going for us. Even desball was more exciting. Actually bring Des back lol. Can’t do any worse.
A player like trindall playing nsw cup all year would want to play nrl of course.
A starting 7 in an nrl side will be harder to get

Trindall is exactly what we need also. We don’t need the marquee 7.

Trindall is a solid game managing half. He had a good kicking game. He is also a good age.

He wouldn’t command marquee dollars either. It’s an absolute no brainer for me.

Mahoney defense isn't the problem, it's the lack of support around him that is forcing him to miss most of his miss tackles
Exactly, he defends the same way as any small man in the middle who constantly has bigger guys targeting him, puts himself in the way to stop momentum and give the big guys either side of him the chance to nail the tackle. Watch guys like Cook, Grant, Croker, etc, they do exactly the same thing, the key difference is their forwards are that bit quicker to get in and finish the tackle off.

Some things never change, Wok perfected that defence strategy with Baa Baa & Folksy and the Dogs of War.
The good old days !
