My quick count is 22 players currently contracted for next season, which leaves 8 spots out of the 30. I would move 3 to NSW Cup Contracts, which leaves 11 spots available. I would sign 7 current players on 1 +1 or 2 + 1 contracts, which then leaves 4 spots available. There is too much water yet to flow under the bridge to decide what positions we need to use those 4 to fill.

I have the view that the RLPA will get its way and it will be Top 40 NRL Contracted Players for next season and there will be no "Development Players".

Perham on 2 year contract apparently.

So we are stuck with him for 2024.

I’m on the fence with Waddle. He frustrates the hell out of me, but some of his best games have been when he’s been thrown in at Prop, where he just tucked the ball under his arm and ripped in. If we signed him close to min wage and he bulked up another 5kgs I think he could be a handy prop benchie. He’s already around 6’2 and 100-102kgs so add a few more kgs he could be handy. But I can easily be sold that this won’t work haha
I look forward to the day the team dont have mistake riddled unreliable rocks or diamonds players :grinning:

Looking at the off contract list - how many are being chased by other clubs? Says a lot about them I think. One rumour about Alomoti. (Maybe). How many top line players are not signed (current or new club) by this point of their final year of their contract?

The difficult bit is getting the player and his agent to agree to the option.
That's the bit I find tedious.
In the case of player options. That just smacks of desperation from a club. Should never be an option (at least at the Bulldogs).
In any case, we have live examples even this season of players going or being let go from fully contracted status, so the "option" malarkey seems to be even more of a farce.
Anyways, back to Gus. It's largely his Soufflé to manage.

Makes no difference, still takes up a Top 30 spot and more importantly the NRL Salary Cap Auditor will assume he plays every game and include that in our Cap. Whether he plays every game or not is therefore irrelevant.

You need to also consider what you’re paying these guys. A lot like burns would be close to minimum wage. That’s worth keeping around. Even if he gets injured every time he gets into the top grade. Cause unisss you have better options coming through which we get to see soon with more players able to be used. It’s better to keep known quantities.

guys like alomoti won’t get big money based on performance this year and that’s good for the dogs. If we get him right he will outplay his contract.
the cowboys may offer him good coin

Loyalty goes both ways and Luke has been very loyal throughout all the criticism.

If we can’t get Hunt I’d definitely offer him a gig but I wouldn’t pay over 800k for him.
If we pick him up for 700, could be the moneyball buy of the year.
