That is a good question. And the majority of this list would be being considered/targeted by rival NRL clubs as recruitment managers review 2024-2025 rosters and beyond. With so many experts on the kennel i want to know who do you replace these players with
Averillo?
Burns?
Alamoti?
Waddell?
Thompson?
Brown?
Okunbor?
Hughes?
Yes Gus tweeted Brandon Clarke & Andrew Davey were released the same day, Malachi Retchford & Judda Turahui were released last year & O'Neill is on a development contract so that leaves 12 players coming off contract & if the top30 is the number next year Dogs have only about 6 spots to fill.I could have sworn B Clarke left the club earlier this year?
Anyway there are only a handful from that list that will remain. Alamoti, Hughes and Patolo. Maybe a couple more like Burns and Brown for depth in key positions but that’s it. That just goes to show how bad the salary cap situation at the club was.
16 of the current top 28 signed for next year plus Crichton, BBO and Xerri - who else is definitely signed as part of top 30 for next year - Samrani? For the same reasons we should have kept Foran, we rehab them and then they go somewhere else to play well and consistently. Thompson has no "structural", re occuring injuries, hopefully we won't have another Covid pandemic that caused him so many issues (partner, mother, no travel etc) and his bad luck with injuries is exhausted. How do you keep Thompson?
He has hardly been on the Field in 3 years.
Foran was our best player when playing/on the field. Foran and Thompson are not comparable. For the same reasons we should have kept Foran, we rehab them and then they go somewhere else to play well and consistently. At a fair contract value is see no reason to not re-sign him.
Always a Bulldog
Do you think Okunbor has stepped up because his contract is up or because he's been playing better in the forwards? How many players seem to improve when their contract is up, a lot do or should judgement be left until the last game of the season, he has the size to be a good capable forward, can he push on?alamoti, averillo, faamanu Brown, Hughes and patolo.
would only retain okunbor and waddell for depth for 1 more season if we cant get anyone else better though im sure we have better options coming through in nsw cup that can replace them
Patolo will be back this week... Played NSW cup last week and didnt miss a beat!Yes - Alamoti, Averillo
Maybe - Hughes, Patolo
Rest no
I'd say he's more suited as an edge backrower but we don't really need him when next season our edges will be preston and kikau though like I said he's only handy for depthDo you think Okunbor has stepped up because his contract is up or because he's been playing better in the forwards?
