NRL superstars Latrell Mitchell and Jack Wighton have been arrested over an alleged incident at a nightclub in Canberra late on Saturday night.
News Corp can reveal the Kangaroos stars and close mates are now the subject of an NRL Integrity Unit investigation.
The pair had been out celebrating Wighton’s 30th birthday.
They are alleged to have had a fight between themselves which witnesses suggested was not a lot more than a friendly wrestle.
However police were called and Mitchell was charged with resisting arrest.
Wighton was also charged and the pair are likely to face court in the ACT.
The news will shock Rabbitohs and Raiders fans knowing that the pair have been such close mates over a long period of time.
Both players were detained and spent the night in police cells.
The irony was that Mitchell and his partner were supposed to be staying at Wighton’s home that evening.
Canberra Raiders CEO Don Furner drove Wighton home from the police station on Sunday morning while Mitchell is understood to be returning to Sydney.
The incident is understood to have occured around 2am, the party was at a hotel in Queanbeyan but the incident occurred later in the night when they attended a Fiction nightclub in Canberra.
An NRL spokesman has confirmed the integrity unit is investigating.
