Jeremy Marshall-King has hit the open market as he considers his long-term playing future. Canterbury’s indifferent start to the season has not stopped rival clubs from circling the Bulldogs hooker. The Dolphins, Dragons and Warriors have expressed an interest in the 26-year-old who appears on the move at season’s end.

Marshall-King has the upper hand in negotiations given he has an option his way to remain at Canterbury for 2023.

But the impending arrival of Reed Mahoney at Canterbury means Marshall-King is unlikely to want to stay at the club given Mahoney will naturally be the first choice rake. Mahoney can also can get through the 80 minutes.

The Bulldogs have indicated they would like to keep him but are facing an up-hill battle to retain his services.

A host of clubs have come knocking. Marshall-King’s brother Benji shares a close relationship with Dolphins coach Wayne Bennett while the Warriors are on the lookout to add some cover at hooker for Wayde Egan.

The Dolphins are yet to nail down a first choice hooker opening the door for Marshall-King to become the starting rake in their inaugural season. He also looms as perfect bench utility given his ability to play at hooker or in the halves.

The Dragons depth significantly drops off at the dummy half position after veteran Andrew McCullough. McCullough is in the final year of his deal next season.

Marshall-King has until June 30 to decide if he will remain at the Bulldogs for next season. He has been a mainstay for the Bulldogs since joining the club in 2018.

Fantastic news but fuck I'm so confused. Do I use the Love Emoji or the Laughing Emoji for this post?
Can't believe 3 clubs are after him. Where the fuck are the Tigers?
If clubs are after JMK then surely someone else might be dumb enough to pick up Flanno too?

It makes no sense for JMK to stay with us if he's getting other offers. He's only 26 and playing a year in reserve grade behind Mahoney, even if he gets a bit more money for that year, won't help his career long term.

I'm not surprised if Bennett, with a whole roster to fill, is interested in a fairly experienced NRL player who can be back-up for half and hooker.

Please test the market and go. The fact anyone would sign him isn't because of his skill, it is because there are so few players on the market. Adding another team was absolutely stupid by the NRL.

You watch…. He’ll end up staying!

But Gus did tweet the other day that Jeremy Momentum Killer is performing extremely well (translation) he’s on the outer!
Gus is too smart for everybody.

Our 9 and 7 are the best in the league, they are First Graders and playing week in week out in their natural positions. This is how you market your players if you want them to leave early. You do and say the opposite to what we say on TK.

JMQ will leave. Happy to see him go. We've replaced him with a much better player, and BBO gives us similar backup/ bench coverage that JMQ provides.

If Flanno plays out the whole year in FG then there will be clubs after him. If he dwindles in reserve grade then no one would want him.

Spot on. Hardly enough talent to fill 16 teams let alone 17. Skeletor surely only is considering someone like JMK because there’s so few other choices. The Pilchards don’t even have 17 yet 30 players, do they?

He is managed by Mario Tarak, so perhaps the Dragons may be a possibility. Also considering Griffin likes hookers like JMK, McCullough for example.

I’d be interested to see what we get back in the salary cap. He signed under the previous administration (regularly paid overs) and we were a little desperate so it might be a healthy chunk of change back for us to pursue another quality signing.

I would rather lose Flanno than JMK. The only thing that worries me about losing JMK is the possibility of having to play a worse backup should Reed get injured.

This is the signing the Dolphins were hoping for. By all means take him. We'll even include the shipping free of charge.
