Asiata gives us a lot more attacking options (if we had any this year) with his running game and his great hands. He thinks, which many didn't this year. I hope he signs.

if we are getting Asiata then TB is going to play him as a ball playing lock in the role like Yeo, which again is the penrith structure. I hope he realises both Burton and Averillo are not and will never be Cleary.

Peachey just released from Titans.
Better option than Asiata - though price dependant obviously
peachey at the right price would be a great pick up imo. todays game at lock and can cover centre, the perfect 14

This is exactly what I've been trying to say and you've absolutely hit it. Gus doesn't just wake up and see Asiata as part of our vision.

If he is willing to sign on min wage or thereabouts its a no brainer. Gus has said that not even Crichton or Ogden are willing to accept minimum wage at this stage so the talent you can select at that price point is limited.
Interesting that Ogden and Crichton are not willing to accept min wage - now they are watching the cap $$ being spent elsewhere, not sure what they think they will be paid for park footy next year? Signing Asiata seems like a way to show these blokes that we will move on if you don't sign on for what we think you are worth

He has ball skills and he would add depth , But when was his last good season? I'm indifferent about him signing .if we get him for a bargain price it's good for our cap I guess

Canterbury’s on-again, off-again pursuit of John Asiata is set to be reignited after the Bulldogs identified the ball-playing forward as an ideal replacement for Adam Elliott.

Just a couple of weeks after general manager Phil Gould told the off-contract Asiata not to turn down other rival offers given Canterbury’s salary cap predicament, the Bulldogs have discussed a renewed pitch for the 28-year-old following Elliott’s exit.

Elliott has played his last game for the club after agreeing to a mutual release from the final two years of his deal. That came following the Gold Coast toilet tryst with NRLW player Millie Boyle, which also cost him a $10,000 fine from the NRL. He is on the hunt for a new club and is expected to field offers in coming weeks.

His Canterbury exit has freed up more than $400,000 in the club’s salary cap for 2022, making Asiata an attractive option to increase creativity in the forwards. The Brisbane forward even spent time filling in at half during his earlier days at North Queensland.

It was thought Canterbury’s push to bring Asiata to Belmore was going to be thwarted, but Elliott’s decision to start afresh after agreeing a settlement with the Bulldogs has opened the door again.

Asiata underwent neck surgery after a nasty head clash with South Sydney veteran Mark Nicholls during a match in June. But it hasn’t deterred the Bulldogs, who have room to make another signing for their revamped squad under coach Trent Barrett for

Matt Burton, Josh Addo-Carr, Tevita Pangai jnr, Brent Naden, Paul Vaughan and Matt Dufty will all join the club over summer, and Asiata could be the next to follow.

Asiata, who has played for both Samoa and Tonga, is seen as the perfect foil for the club’s forward pack. He would also bring grand final-winning experience, as will Addo-Carr, to a club desperate to start their climb off the bottom of the ladder.

Asiata, who was a key member of Paul Green’s triumphant 2015 North Queensland side, only signed a short-term deal with the Broncos.
Geez, Adam's salary has gone down since he left us. Always seems to be the way.

Ball skills. A forgotten art in the age of meter eaters and quick play the balls. A pack needs balance and players like Asiata or Peachey would provide that
Barrett will probably tell him not to pass to ensure our completion rate is high.

The Bulldogs have added another piece to their forward pack for next season, with the signing of Brisbane Broncos utility, John Asiata, on a one-year deal.

Having made his debut for the Cowboys in 2014, Asiata, was part of their Premiership winning side in 2015, going on to play 128 matches for the club before joining the Broncos last season.

The 28 year-old has represented both Tonga and Samoa at International level, and has shown a versatility in his game that can see him cover a number of positions.

He is also renowned for the charity work he does off the field, having twice been the recipient of the Cowboys' Clubman of the Year Award.

Bulldogs Chief Executive, Aaron Warburton, believes that Asiata will be a tremendous addition to the club's forward pack for next season:

"By signing someone of John's experience and versatility for next season, we believe that we have found a player who will be a great addition to our club.

With forwards such as Tevita Pangai Junior, Paul Vaughan and Josh Cook joining us, plus retaining a strong nucleus from our current squad, we think that John will bring a level of skill and leadership that will greatly complement that group.

John, is also extremely active in regards to his work in the community, and that is something that was extremely important to us.

We are really excited about the squad that we have assembled and can't wait to see them together for pre-season."
