News has just come out that AJ Brimson has signed a mega 5-year deal worth $3m for the Titans.

imo, our current FB's are just fill ins and in no way are they specialist FB's.

In our current predicament, our number one priority is the number 9, though it doesn't mean we shouldn't have a look at other available FB's when they are available

Going through the current FB's across the NRL, you have;

Manly - T. Turbo (won't be leaving)
Parra - Gutho (won't be leaving)
Storm - Papsmear (won't be leaving)
Raiders - CNK (won't be leaving)
Rorters - Tedesco (won't be leaving)
Souths - Mitchell (won't be leaving)
Panthers - Edwards (Staines waiting)
Newcastle - Ponga (good FB - big Drama queen with contracts)
Cowboys - Holmes (won't be leaving)
Gold Coast - AJ Brimson (won't be leaving)

These FB's are good to great and are more than likely locked up long term at their respective clubs

Lets have a look at the remainder

Broncos - Isaako (winger filling in at FB)
Tigers - Laurie (Still young and fresh playing at a basket case of a club)
St Merge - Dufty (has talent, been playing for few years now and still lacks alot of consistency)
Bulldogs - Too many to mention (for too many years its been a game of Russian roulette)
Sharks - another one of those too many over the last few years
Warriors - RTS (Great FB, though warriors need a new FB as Roger is heading to Union next year)

The clubs with established/talented FB's are all in the top 8 barring the Knights & Cowboys

The remainder of the clubs are in the bottom of the 8.

How important is the FB role? Do we have a crack at a fullback who is available?

imo Hynes would be a worthy risk at the right price. Others believe Hynes would suffer away from the Storm system

imo Dufty doesnt seem to have it in him to go up a couple of gears with consistency! Others believe he is worth the risk

Are there any other FB's available?

Thoughts?

Paps won’t leave Melbourne unless a second team in Brisbane is formed.

Milford is almost out the door at the broncos maybe we should look into him for fullback.
We went mid tier for Allan that hasnt worked so far, isn't this guy on a permanent decline?? I see him as another who we might get for Allan money or maybe more worryingly and be no better off that's my take on Milford so i'd pass.

His best footy was at fullback never rated him as a halve.

Why not? The only reason he's there is because of Bellamy, once he's gone Paps might go too. We need to try at least. Our options at fullback are AWFUL so we need to "have a crack" at Paps. DWZ at 1 is almost as painful as seeing Lewis in the halves....yuk.

why do you say that? A Sydney boy grew up supporting the Dog's? we match Donkey's version 2 offer..and by then we're going much better he is a play within reason monetarily, he may well say no but strive for the best not mediocrity.

Milford was excellent at Canberra at FB.

Since going to Broncos on a massive deal, he has gone downhill. He has been dropped, he is unwanted, Milford is finished. Milford doesn't have it in him upstairs to bounce back

yep as i said is a clear NO from me..we want to aim much higher.
Said in another thread and partly because he can play two positions Hynes i wouldnt be averse to signing BUT we need to get a 9 and props first and not overspend.IF we went that way i have not much idea what sort of money he would command or if we can afford him.

Apparently that’s what he wanted no sure where I heard it but did hear he wouldn’t leave Melbourne, I could be wrong and mixing him up with another player but i cant think of another player that will only leave Melbourne for a second team in Brisbane.

Scott Drinkwater is pretty good and off contract. Wasn't he one of the best players / best player in the 9's comp a few years back. They say he is good at organising the defensive line from fullback. Can also play in the halves so must be a ball playing fullback.

Of these ten not leaving(and i do not know where there at contractually other than Paps is end of '22)i've highlighted 4 that i reckon possibly would Ponga definitely reckon he would get on well with Baz their a pair of s.n.a.g.'s these two albeit a generation apart
