It’s the little things that shit me. Like the really tough laws about gambling advertising, for example during the cricket, no gambling odds updates 5 minutes before or after play, yet in the recent series against Pakistan, the boundary was one big fuckin rope with Bet365 plastered on it. And David Warner and the like were smashing balls into that boundary a lot, so it was almost constantly on camera, getting their brand forever in your face. And that farkin throw away line at the end of every sports gambling ad ‘gamble responsible’ or some inane variation of that, is so tokenistic I can almost hear the betting and advertising agencies laughing every time I hear it. I used to have many a sports-bet, but I’ve just been put off by the carpet-bombing nature of the advertising in this country.
I can’t believe how many of these companies are operating seemingly so successfully in Australia, given our relative small population. I got rid of Foxtel this year but I remember during half time breaks, at least 3 different sports bet companies ran ads. It just casts such a suss cloud over the whole comp imo. How else other than corruption can you explain some of the refereeing and nrl management decisions from the last few years? Ok, so an answer to that last question is incompetence, but surely they can’t be that farkin consistently hopeless?
