Canterbury Bulldogs pull out of race to sign Latrell Mitchell

The race to sign Sydney Roosters superstar Latrell Mitchell has narrowed with a key contender confirming they aren’t interested in signing the Australian strike centre.

Canterbury has officially pulled out of the race to sign Latrell Mitchell.

After a meeting of the club’s football retention committee this afternoon, chief executive Andrew Hill told The Daily Telegraph that the Bulldogs would not be pursuing the out of favour Sydney Rooster.

“Usually we don’t make comment around our recruitment and retention strategies,” Hill said.

“However, with all the speculation around this matter we thought it was the right thing to do by everyone to confirm we won’t pursue an interest in Latrell Mitchell.”

This decision came after a meeting between Hill, coach Dean Pay, general manager of football Steve Price and development and pathways manager Dave Hamilton.

The Bulldogs had been viewed as a significant player in the race for the 22-year-old Test centre after Mitchell met with board member George Khoury during the finals series.

Good move by the club. Yes we need a gun signing or 2 to improve but Latrell is over priced and high risk. Not the sort of player you build a team around...

I think it's unreal people wouldn't want him.

Who are you waiting for? JT? Cronk? Smith?

Maybe I watch a different game, I can't even fathom rejecting the guy who is the leading point scorer by a country mile and only 2nd in tries.

Remis Smith in that Roosters team would probably also have 20+ tries. Its the best attacking team by a country mile man.

He is easily the most gifted centre in the game, but when Keary got injured he just didnt get involved at all and even lost his origin spot because of that lackluster effort in origin.

Im all for him to get 800k ONLY if his involvement in the game improves out of sight. There were games that i had seen during the year were he only touched the ball like 10 times all game. Not acceptable at all.
