Every dog has his day and being a piece of shit on and off the field has finally caught up with the ****.

Karma is a bitch and so is he.
Nah seriously they are trying to rort the cap again just like they did with Inglis. They realise they are in trouble and want to offload him. They signed him for what he was worth and he still is worth the contracted amount regardless of how many games he plays. If Karmas a bitch then Souths should be struck down for being *****. Look at the way we have handled Foran's injuries. That's how you treat a player and I'm sure it doesn't go unnoticed.

He has obviously had ,pardon the pun, a massive tap on the shoulder from the coach. Wayne Bennett has done it before to others under his control and it even extended to his tenure as coach of England with criticism levelled at Burgess.

Burgess's life off field is falling apart and his on field issues have become a problem for the club itself. Can't control his temper and with the money he is on the club would want him to be front and centre in their premiership charges.

Everyone can see the issue except the man himself. His record shows that he has been a bit lucky not to be suspended more times than he has, only because of the varied charges which have levelled at him and the fact that they have not led to carry over points/ loading for similar offences.

Sam Burgess is harming his claims as the NRL's greatest English import with silly infractions, according to rugby league legends Brad Fittler and Peter Sterling.

Burgess will miss South Sydney's opening finals match after pleading guilty to pulling the hair of Roosters player Billy Smith on Thursday night.

It was the Rabbitohs captain's fifth charge in the past two seasons and his third this year alone, meaning this time he could not escape with a fine.

Fittler said on The Sunday Footy Show that Burgess' toughness was unquestionable, but the English forward sometimes "lacked control".

"I think a lot of people are sort of nervous about Sam going into the future," Fittler said.

"We love him playing in the NRL, he's a beauty. Great fella, so tough. The good thing is, he doesn't need to change the way he plays, we don't need to see anything different.

"The toughness isn't the thing that's holding him back. It's most probably the control.

"This is the reason that Sam's missing the semi-final, no other reason. The toughness doesn't have to go, just a little bit of control would be good."

Monday Buzz: Rabbitohs in $3.6 million bind over Sam Burgess
South Sydney won’t confirm it, but the very strong tip is Sam Burgess will not play again. How the NRL handles his exit is a situation every club in the game is closely monitoring.

The man who will determine the South Sydney Rabbitohs’ premiership hopes over the next three years is not supercoach Wayne Bennett.

It is more likely to be Richard Gardham. Richard who?

He is the NRL’s chief salary cap auditor and a former accountant at Deloitte who will make the decision on whether Sam Burgess can be medically retired with his shoulder injury without affecting the club’s salary cap.

This would allow the Rabbitohs to chase a potential superstar like David Fifita by freeing up Burgess’s $1.2 million a year salary ($3.6 million while he is contracted for the next three years.)

This is a situation every club in the game is closely monitoring.

There have been situations in the past (Brett Stewart at Manly and Anthony Watmough at Parramatta) when the NRL ruled they had to stay in the salary cap despite career-ending injuries like the one Burgess potentially has.

There were questions already being asked about the Rabbitohs earlier this year when Greg Inglis retired and the NRL ruled the club could get cap relief.

So we checked out the NRL rules. If a player medically retires, a club must apply to the NRL to seek salary cap relief. There are a couple of stipulations. The salary cap auditor must then study medical records and evidence to determine:

a) The player, at the time of termination, was diagnosed as medically unfit to currently continue to train and play elite-level contact sport and was medically unable to ever return to play elite-level contact sport due to the current level of disability or the significant risk of further disabling injury as a result of playing elite level contract sport.

b) The player had no similar injury or medical condition to that area of the body that either has or could reasonably be predicted medically to lead to a degenerative condition of that area of the body prior to signing his last NRL contract.

Burgess’s last contract was signed towards the end of last year.

The club’s general manager of football, Shane Richardson, said the injury was suffered this year in round five on April 13 against the New Zealand Warriors on the Sunshine Coast. He did it late in the first half but played out the game.

The very strong tip is Burgess will not play again, not that South Sydney will confirm that.

“We’re still going through a process,” Richardson said on Sunday.

“Whatever happens, Sam is entitled to get his money. It’s a matter of whether we get dispensation in the cap if he is forced to retire. We haven’t explored that or gone to the NRL.”

Souths claim to have records proving that in Burgess’s medical, when he signed in 2018, there was no indication of the shoulder problem that is forcing him out of the game.

“It definitely wasn’t a pre-existing injury,” Richardson said.

“But we still haven’t given up hope that he will play next year.”

Others claim there is more to the story. Even an acceptance among Souths’ powerbrokers that Sam’s ill-discipline, judiciary record and off-field dramas have become too much.

That they might even be quietly encouraging him to walk away.

A decision will have to be made sooner rather than later. Surely Souths can’t sit back and wait until March for a decision from the NRL. They have a roster to sort out and will need a significant signing to replace the great English forward.

Sam Burgess shoulder injury update

NRL.com

Thu 9 Dec 2010, 01:42 PM
Rabbitohs forward Sam Burgess has had surgery this week to repair damage to his shoulder suffered in England’s Four Nations clash with Papua New Guinea in November.

Burgess’ shoulder was not healing as quickly as expected, so he went in for shoulder surgery yesterday to repair the damage.

Burgess will commence rehabilitation training in four weeks and will be available to start the 2011 season for the Rabbitohs.

https://forums.leagueunlimited.com/threads/update-on-sam-burgess-shoulder-injury.374416/

The Rabbitohs released a statement three days after the injury, clearing the English International who has a history of shoulder problems having undergone a full reconstruction on his right shoulder during his time with Bradford in the English Super League.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Burgess

Burgess continued to represent England at the end of the season in the 2010 Four Nations tournament. His shoulder was injured in the first game of the 2011 NRL season against the Roosters on 11 March, for which he needed surgery and a month of rest.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Burgess

Burgess started the 2019 NRL season strongly as Souths won 10 of their first 11 games. Following Souths Round 13 loss against Newcastle, Burgess was ruled out with a shoulder injury. It was later revealed that Burgess needed a drip inserted into his heart to fight an infection after shoulder surgery and was ruled out from playing indefinitely.[46]

And no doubt Sam Burgers will end up with a well paying job with Souffs and the NRL plus lucrative media jobs to go with his $3.6 million payout.

You can already see the writing on the wall. Clause b degeneritive they will say there's only 25% bone due to surgery infection - however the hell that really happens - with a letter written by the relevant friendly doctor confirming this. Once again another legal cap rort for one of the NRL's favourites.

The fact they got away with it once with G.I was ridiculous. If they do it again with Burgess then it's just down right favouritism and completely dodgy dealings by the Nrlol and South's.

Other Clubs were annoyed about the G.I situation, so I'd expect them to get really pissed if it happens again, not even a year apart with the same team. Questions will be asked, more likely demanded.

This is not good for us if Souths get this blatant rort through. They’ll now have enough money to also make a bid for Luke Thompson for 2021 and I was hoping he’d be our top target
