To be a genuine chance at winning a comp from 2021 and thereafter I believe we need a team / squad as below. I've also listed likely salaries for each player so we could fit under the cap of 9.1M. I know it's probably not 100% correct in values (especially by 2021) but it's close and if you can do better please feel free to have a crack.

People keep complaining about Latrell Mitchell being hot and cold / in and out of games and not being worth a MIL a season for a non spine player. Well we definitely need at least 2 strike players in the backline (someone who can create something from nothing). If Mitchell were playing fullback he would naturally be more involved in all games thus earning his keep as a spine player. At fullback he could be close to a Tedesco. Remember also he's a goal kicker and also kicks in general play and has a pretty decent boot. If we lost Lewis we would need someone who can kick for "distance" and if Meaney were demoted for Radradra we need a goalkicker.

To fit in 3 big signings of Latrell Mitchell, Semi Radradra and David Fifita we would need to shed Adam Elliott, Aiden Tolman, Lachlan Lewis, Marcelo Montoya, Kerrod Holland, Sauaso Sue but it would be worth it to get ALL the 3 players above. Would like to retain Lewis and Tolman as back up but don't think it's possible / affordable unfortunately. Also I believe we're stuck with Crichton until 2021 unless we can shed him somewhere else. He wouldn't be on huge money though anyway.

For those of you unfamiliar with Devontai Seumanutafa, he's a great young middle forward recently promoted from SG Ball to ISP. He's from that famous Keebra Park high school. Remember he was the guy who set some benchpress record while still at school. I saw a clip of him recently breaking 5 tackles in a row during a run downfield.

I read of the squad of 30, 4 players can be on $75,000 then the rest the minimum wage would be $110,000 by 2021. Can spend 200K per year on long serving player/s outside of cap plus 100K in car allowances. Third party agreements are unlimited but players can only do work for companies not officially tied to the club (ie sponsors) and the companies cannot promote in media etc that the player plays for the .....

Latrell/Manu
David Fifita/Radradra

I'd retain Tolman, Elliott and Lewis.

Foran won't be offered that much (if he demands that much I'd say we'd let him walk).
Jackson will be offered 700k (500k if using veteran allowance).
DWZ will be offered 600-700k (especially at Fullback).
There are probably a few more I disagree with.

I dunno why, but ill admit, it was finally pleasurable to read a side without elliot in the 17.
I mean wouldn’t it be easier saying geez I hope we throw some big money at semi latrell Fifita as the cap Opens up?

Most of those salaries are way off,

- Crichton is on double that already
- CHN is on a lot more than 350k
- Jackson is on around 700k
- JMK would've gotten a nice pay rise with the new contract and on more than your quoted price.
- DWZ will be on more than 400k
- Stimson would've received more than the minimum wage lol

Also you can't just throw a 20k car at millionaires as an incentive.

I know blokes like Tolman and Elliott get a lot of flack on here (and sometimes a sparse bit of praise), but I have bad memories of the break up of the winning '04 team. When player departure is badly managed, the repercussions can be enormous. I can recall big Willy whinging about Adam Perry being let go. Who was Adam Perry? He was 2004 GF starting hooker, built like a small fridge, hair a bit like Elliott before someone took a set of shears to it. He was an ok first grade player, generally shared the dummy half role with Corey Hughes at the time. What people didn't see much of was that he was a big part of the team environment.

The whole concept of bringing in this or that star player so we can win a premiership is fundamentally flawed. As we saw in the last two months of the season, a team that wants to be on the paddock together will play above their weight. Meanwhile, as the horseys showed against the pEels, star power is meaningless if the team isn't getting on.

Klemmer is a NSW and Australian Rep player, yet our first season without him we did better than the season before when we had him. Now the team he joined is toxic. He is by anyone's definition a star player, but put him in the same team for long enough and the rot will set in.

I'm not saying we don't need some more quality, we do, be that through development or attracting players from other teams. But star players alone don't win you games. Elliott and Tolman are both active contributors to a healthy team environment. Cast them aside at your peril.

The problem we had this year is it took Pay 2/3 of the season to get his team playing with cohesion. I was dirty he split Holland and Smith on the right side. Then he tried to compesate the loss of the mozzes with crichton montoya okunbor holland and even moved smith to left centre on an occasion.
Hoppa wasn't sure if he was fullback or right centre. JMK didn't know if was a half hooker or bench utility player. Foran when on the park had no idea if he was half or 5/8. Nor did he know who was his halves partner the following week. Was it JMK Cogger Wakeham or Lewis. The last 3rd of the season it all started to come together. DWZ slotted it in almost seamlessly as our fullback. Hoppa settled in as our right centre. Meaney started to find better winger positional play. JMK started to make the hooker position his own. Lewis with all his attacking deficiencies somehow still gave Foran a stable platform to play his game as a 5/8 and read the game with better execution with our attack.
I just hope Pay takes the positive end of this season as a building block to the off season and allow our current spine to work on their game. Give them 2 or 3 full trial games to tweak their form on real game situations.
In summary to answer the question of the thread, might be an idea to give our 2020 team the chance to settle in before we worry about a possible 2021 team. And let's be real, radrada is happy in union. Lantrell is handy but his price will destroy our cap. As would the turbo brothers Oates is not interested in us. Even the mention of the SBW handshake. Lol.

The extra $200k for long serving players doesn’t go directly to the player. It’s a extra $200k added to the cap and Tolman already qualifies so it’s probably already included in some salaries.

So many variables, if some of those players quoted at $110-$250k start playing really well and are in demand the values could go up 2 or 3 times what's quoted.

I just hope those in charge make the right decisions and we have some decent talent with us in 2021.
