He would be on overs, and on a side note he is shit.

We have Cogger and Lewis battling the other spot in the halves which means 1 of them play cup. Whoever it is one of them will be backup if JMK goes down during the year.

Now go do your maths and get back to me with your figures and scenarios
I mean, I don't really care what we do for next year as long as it doesn't stop us signing Harry Grant for 2021. If it's Cogger on the bench then so be it, just he isn't a Hooker so don't whinge when he struggles there. Katoa would only be on overs 200-250k if we still wanted to sign him while another club offering the same opportunity was interested (otherwise he's minimum wage-150k, I don't think we'd sign him for more we'd just let him go elsewhere). Katoa being the 4th choice Hooker at the Panthers I wouldn't say he is in high demands. We're also thin on Hooker in reserve grade. Next year and the year after.

After we let Koroisau go (which was fair because we would of had to pay overs ~700k) this was always going to be the situation we were going to be in. I saw this coming way before we were even linked with Koroisau. Koroisau and Turpin were the only average-decent Hookers on the market for 2020 (long term options) and we missed out on both of them.

MARSHALL-KING COMMITS TO THE BULLDOGS FOR A FURTHER TWO YEARS

The Bulldogs have continued to build for the future by extending the contract of hooker Jeremy Marshall-King by a further two years, keeping him at Belmore until the end of the 2021 season.

After moving to the Bulldogs from the Wests Tigers in 2018, Marshall-King has proved to be an ironman of the blue and white pack, playing in 23 NRL matches in each of the last two seasons, in addition to winning the 2019 Coaches Award.

Having both started and come off the bench, the 23 year-old has impressed with his service from dummy half and his strong running game.

Bulldogs Head Coach Dean Pay was pleased that the club had been able to extend Marshall-King's time at Belmore:

"Jeremy is the sort of player that every club needs. He has really embraced the hooker's role and he has those qualities of toughness and determination that have really added to the side over the past two seasons.

We believe that he has a great future in the game and that is based on the fact that he is continually looking to learn and improve all the time.

As we continue to strengthen our squad, Jeremy's decision to extend his time with the Bulldogs is a major bonus for the club moving forward.
Happy with that, still young and continuously improving

Best hooker at the club.

Just wished if we were signing other hookers they were better not the same or worse.

But fit mine walk up starter next year and deserves it.

And I’m happy to keep him on the books until we get a better player. Great service and better running game then we had got a long time from our 9s.

I like him for this toughness and humility to keep learning. I sense he will have his best year to date next year.

You would bloody hope so so our club and administrators don’t look like clowns

JMK extends for 1 more year since he was on contract for 2020 already.
Will be valuable moving forward off the bench behind Harry Grant *fingers crossed*.
He signed a two year deal starting 2018 and was off contract end of this year until re-signing on for a further two years.

Very happy with the announcement

Yeah I think we both mean the same thing. The wording is just confusing sometimes. He was going to be at the club for 2020, but now we've added another year to that. I'm happy with the announcement too.

If we didn’t re-sign him he would’ve left the club now as he was off-contract

Great news. It's good to see that his hard work was rewarded. He's shown more improvement in one year than Lichaa did with numerous years of experience. I don't know how far his game will develop. But hopefully the experience he got this season will mean it's not a huge issue that we didn't nab a specialist in our recruitment for the season ahead. He played some really good football at stages and hopefully the best is yet to come from him.

If we do pick up a specialist hooker next year he has a good running game and halves experience. He'd probably be a decent prospect in the outside backs as well as the halves from the bench.

Depth at hooker looks to be our main issue.

I just can't see what everybody else sees, I must be going blind.
When the last few hookers have been lichaa abd nu brown even Jeff fenech would draw jizz.

But he is a solid player. Won’t let the team down. Has a few dimensions to his game (compared to lichaa) and would be on peanuts. And if we get a marquee signing there is a bench spot for him moving forward.

He has shown that he can step up and all we can ask for in a player is to keep evolving. He has! JMK while still a bit raw has shown that his 2 year extension is warranted.

He needs to develop a kicking game - especially a short one & needs to run way more... he showed glimpses of his running game, but we had nobody backing him up....

agree but I think I did start seeing him put boot to ball a few times from DH last few games this year.

Seen a 40/20 kick from him - need more of this and also like you said a kicking game to get a repeat set.

I'm excited by this. JMK gets a solid two years to show us if he can go to another level. He has already impressed with the improvements in his game this year (40/20 anyone?), has made some good runs, and has shown some seriously good defense. Like his attitude too.
