This is the worst we have ever been in my lifetime.
I'm seriously not used to us being soooo shit, certainly not Bulldogs DNA!

First time in my lifetime. Been supporting the dogs since the early 90s and have never experienced such a shit era.

If you've been supporting the dogs longer and can remember the 80's it makes things even more painful.

I've always been used to us being a powerhouse, the sad thing is I was at work Sunday listening to the game on radio and commentators were clearly feeling sorry for us and making excuses, that's not really a position I like us being in.

We'll be back.. Once we get our shit sorted we'll be back. If we're just making up the numbers then honestly I don't care about making the 8 for now. The next time we make finals I actually want us to be a threat.

We missed the finals four years straight from 89-92.
Which funny enough was the same time Chris Anderson took control of the team . We then went on to make semis and 2 grand finals and got a Premiership, lets hope history repeats itself. Hard to see at the moment ..

Although it wasn't our best period, it wasn't as bad as it seemed:

1988: We came 2nd in 1988 and won the Premiership.
1989: We won 10 and lost 10. In today's comp we'd have made the top 8.
1990: We won 12 games and lost 9. In today's comp we'd have made the top 8.
1991: Finished 5th and made finals.
1992: We won 10 and lost 10. In today's comp we'd have made the top 8.

I'd argue that period was just as bad as where we are now after so many players jumped ship after 88.

What got us back into contention then was so many gun juniors coming through the club. That 1991 Presidents Cup team was phenomenal.

Things were a lot more simpler back then without the cap so let's hope Opes has updated his approach.

It was a top 5 back in those days so going 10 and 10 was pretty mediocre it shows you how soft the comp has become when winning half your games gets you into the finals.

One of the first games I remember was losing that mid week play off against the Magpies in 1991 and missing the finals.

1991 we lost the play off for 5th.

In all likelihood we will be out of the finals for 4 years unless there is a big improvement next season. Also there is no guarantee for 2021 either as we don’t know who the coach will be (probably Pay) OR what the squad will look like in 2021.

Des got the sack for finishing 12th with 10 wins in 2017, and the club paid him $2m for nothing, and the team as gone backwards since 2017.

Dont think that period was as bad for the fans. For starter we just won gf in 88. We also had a play off against west to get into the final in one of those seasons.

I think that’s a fair point it was top 5 back then so if you came 6-8th you were still competitive you just didn’t make finals. Atm we aren’t that competitive most games.

Recent GF wins make mediocre seasons more easier to stomach for sure. If we jagged a comp in 12 or 14 the fans attitude would have been tempered some bit. It’s also easier to look back on that period now knowing we got ourselves back into contention shortly after. We don’t have that luxury now.

Imo we have had some rough times in the past 30+ years but this is the worst in terms of results and the length time for recovery.

What i dont know about this is whether the damage this time is bigger than in the past, like player exodus of late 80s, salary cap scandal which led us to gradually releasing players etc, or the people in charge of fixing this arent as good as past management.
