Thats our 'dire' cap situation as presented by the club tonight..

Sure our cap isnt good but on radio tonight a player manager has said on triple m its very common for NRL teams to have the last 7-8players in their 30man squad on an average of 100K each for 700-800K total

Clearly the situations not great amd our cap looks tight for a few years affecting our ability to sign stars, but having our bottom 5 players, 26-30 in our 30man squad on a 100K each is far from the end of the world..

Klemmer & Mbye dont need to go anywhere..

Thats my take on our salary cap situation

Agreed. Bad, but not THAT bad. Media trying to shit on the club and exaggerate....as usual.

I think we’ll really miss the Morris brothers and next year in particular will be a rough one for us, but this talk of getting rid of Klem, Mbye and others is just media confected bullshit.

The thing is if you didn’t know about the media speculation before and you heard about the stuff tonight for the first time would you be happy? The problem is we are stuck with pretty much the same roster that’s struggling minus the two highest paid outside backs who we have to replace with rookies.

What you are not factoring in is the amount of 100k players we already have on the books for next year in that 25 player list

If we could piss off overpaid underachievers like Mbye who is getting paid double his worth , the club would be in a better cap position.
Seriously, the overs paid to Mbye and Woods would go a long way re channeled elsewhere bringing 3-4 competent player who would actually perform better and strengthen the squad.

We might be lucky I see it as real possibility too offload 1 or 2 of the under preforming players, which might make it possible for us to keep the 2 Morrises.

Yes, all three combined would cost over a million dollars (based on their asking prices)
Even if Morris's stay on minimum dollars we can't fit a total of 30 players under the cap which is mandatory.

Is it worth keeping the Morris’s though? They have 1 or 2 years left at the maximum and seeing we are in full rebuild mode it would make more sense buying the best centre/winger under 19 and giving them the chance of first grade. Signing them now is very short sighted with our situation.

Players 27 through to 30 only have to be paid $72500 pa for next year increasing by $2500 pa until 2022.

Yes, but the big problem is we would be paying part of their contracts for them to play elsewhere for a few years, something we are already doing enough of according to reports.

:tonguewink: With the depth we have the club should just back end the Morris bros on their next contract & stick in a rachet clause for good measure

I'd still consider offloading Mbye if a quality half is available. We at least need someone to organise. Foran isn't doing that. Mbye is a great runner and pretty good under the high ball, but he isn't improving his position play at all! In attack or defence. I'd have thought he'd be showing improvement in that area by now.

I agree, let’s go for a full rebuild. We’ll be better off for the long run
