Bulldogs forward Devontai Seumanutafa breaks Keebra Park squat record

MEET the strongest 17-year-old in rugby league.

His name is Devontai Seumanutafa and Canterbury fans, he belongs to you.

A product of famed high school breeding ground for NRL players, Keebra Park, the young forward is a powerhouse.

While still very raw, it’s clear to see why he’s been earmarked for a bright future.

So special, he’s signed with the Bulldogs until the end of 2019.

Bulldogs Head of Recruitment, Warren McDonnell, first spotted the Year 11 student earlier this year.

“Obviously his size,” McDonnell told foxsports.com.au of what caught his eye.

“For a big fella he’s got very good leg speed. For a big young kid that size, normally the two don’t go together but he’s got good leg speed.

“The best thing about the kid is he’s willing to work hard, learn and he listens.

Bulldogs' new schoolboy beast

“He knows he’s got a long way to go.

“He’s been down to our camps and he takes everything on board. He’s a sponge and willing to do what needs to be done.”

An Australian resident with Samoan, Tongan and Maori heritage who spent his childhood in New Zealand, Seumanutafa was built for the game.

Starting in the forward pack alongside Brisbane giant David Fifita in Keebra Park’s national schoolboys championship win over Westfields Sports in the GIO Cup national final last month, Seumanutafa will be in Belmore early next year as part of the club’s annual development camps.

On a scholarship with the Bulldogs while he finishes school, Seumanutafa will relocate to Sydney late next year to begin pre-season training for the 2019 season after completing his HSC.

“He’s very raw,” McDonnell said.

“It’s going to be a work in progress but his attitude and willingness to work is a big plus for him going forward.”

In the meantime, he’ll continue developing his game on the Gold Coast.

That means plenty of time spent in the gym.

Footage of Seumanutafa has been spread throughout social media of the teen breaking the school record for heaviest squat.

The clip of the forward with died bright red hair squatting a mammoth 190 kilos has gone viral.

What’s scariest about the ridiculous amount of weight Seumanutafa can lift is the fact the beast is only in his first year periodised gym training.

While McDonnell hasn’t seen the vision, the insane number didn’t surprise the recruitment guru.

“I haven’t seen it yet,” he said.

“There’s been some strong kids there (at Keebra Park) Mosese Fotuaika and Issac Liu but this kid is as strong as any.”

Put it this way some of the current strongest players in the Nrl have a personal high of around 210kg squat and whilst in there primes, Seumanutafa will record that by the age of 19.

At the moment he's a giant playing amongst boys let's hope his level of aggression is as big as the weights he is pushing when he takes the next step

My daughter goes to Keebra Park and the talent in this years team are unbelievable.
They are National State Champions.
Bulldogs signed 4-5 players out of this team and so did the Broncos.
We signed the young bloke in the front row on the left with the red sideshow bob hair do, he's a tackling machine.
He plays lock!
Do yourself a favour and check out the youtube link and watch the grand final.
The first hitup and sideshow bob cuts him in half..
Young David Fafita who will be a star is in the team contracted to the Broncos.
Yes he is related to Andrew and David.
