Fucking stupid *****. See why I hate these corrupt ***** and question everything they do?

I'm sure nearly everyone can now see this is just mass distraction keeping the sheep fighting against eachother.
You really think our government is that intelligent?

Nah, it's going the other way. Labor already said they would support the liberal bill that provides basic religious protection (stipulating the protection that's already in place for priests and celebrants), but now Liberals are trying to enter another bill that allows everyone to discriminate against gay people for any reason. Basically it would allow people to put up signs in their shop saying "gays aren't allowed here"
Really??

Yep. And it's a messy, legal nightmare. The new bill Liberals want to introduce is 59 pages. It requires testing to prove that someone is religious (which would require millions of dollars to set up a new department just to create more red tape) and goes through hundreds of stipulations. It's basically a legal nightmare that would tie up the courts with claims and counter-claims.

It’s no chance of getting up though. Won’t even make it out of the lower house.

Yep. Problem is that it'll delay the process. The bill was set and ready to go but this throws a spanner in the works and slows down the process. Liberals are already struggling and they're going into a few bi-elections for important seats. If Liberals look like they're floundering on the issue then Liberals could lose those bi-elections resulting in Labor having a majority government which could result in an early election and goodbye Liberals.

They'd only have themselves to blame though, but I don't want to see Shorten as PM. That guy is the biggest weasel in politics.

I don’t think it’ll slow the process too badly. An extreme bill like that will be debated for half a day, max, before it’s voted on and defeated.

There is no way Barnaby will lose New England.

But Bennelong could be interesting.

I doubt Turnbull will still be PM by Xmas, regardless of which party is in power TBH. He has proven to be a massive disappointment all round.

Probably. It all depends on how many Conservatives are backing the bill. If they all back it and a few moderates back it then it could be a shit fight.

Yeah, I don't see him staying there. But Liberals are scared. They lost a large number of voters and party members last time they had a spill. They may be too scared to spill again. Then again Turnbull has already come out saying that he won't support the new Liberal bill and will make sure that it never gets through. That could be enough reason for the party to cause a spill saying that Turnbull is putting his own beliefs ahead of the party's beliefs.

Turnbull has no credibility when it comes to SSM. He can bang on all he likes about how he supports it - but here we are wasting $100M+.....

Why would he care? It's not his money. His money is safely locked up in a bank. All $200,000,000 of it.

What pisses me off is that Labor would've legalised this shit when they came in anyway, so here we've gone ahead and fast-tracked it at the cost of $122,000,000. What a waste of money that could have been better spent elsewhere.

This is political correctness imploding on itself.

Yep. But from the political point of view it'll become a tool. Turnbull will push to pass SSM making him look good and improving his rating. Him opposing a Conservative bill makes the Conservatives look like they're doing the right thing if they throw him out. It's all political games. No one actually cares about anything. Just look at Shorten, he was against SSM, then supported it, then against it, then supported it again. They just play their games to gain power. Give people what they think they want.

It's only the smaller parties like Greens and One Nation that are actually backing what they believe. Then again, Greens voted down the same-sex marriage bill for political reasons once so they're not exactly the shining example of ideology.

This country is imploding on itself. That's what happens when you have 3 hacks as leaders - PM, Deputy PM, and opposition leader. ALL HACKS!

Yep. It's stupid. The only ones that wanted this vote were Malcolm Turnbull and Tony Abbott. Abbott wanted it because he thought it would come back as a No and that would end the debate (a bit naive). Turnbull wanted it 'cause for some unknown reason he thought it would help his approval rating. Everyone else was against it from all sides.

It's just Conservatives being Conservative. It's what they do. They fear change so they make everything as complicated as possible in an effort to stop change.
And they're using the same manipulative methods as the opposition. Fighting fire with fire really

•changing the meaning of marriage is manipulative.

Being allowed to marry is different.
