Pet Fish: fresh water, salt water and everything in between

So pumps ,filters and heating are all different.

salt water is 10 times more work but is more beautiful and more color full than fresh water.

you need special water for it too as form what i have heard, you can just fill in with your tap water and run.

Yeah you need rodi water which is pretty much the purest form of water. A lot more work and maintenance.

Yeah you will need to move to a refugium setup, with live rock being the major filter. Then you have protein skimmers and water chillers and RO water for top ups because salt water evaporates faster. Salt water fish and coral are much more sensitive to changes in water parameters.
Oh ok I was going to go to the beach and get water from there lol.

Yeah I would buy 20L drums of sea water for $3 at the local pet shop. Easiest way to do it.

What's the first step to take when making sure the water is safe so you don't kill the fish

Buy a test kit. I found it took a month of the system going before I could put fish in

Wow that's a long time before putting anything in it.
I guess I'll do some research before getting into it lol

yeah , you have to have the plants, rocks and other shit running in the tank for a month before you can put the fish in.

i find this funny for some reason, lol

Yeah took ages. And it was about 6 months before my tank became pretty stable

Why do you need plants ? I want a nice sand floor with just abit of corals

Nah no plants. Gotta get all the rock sand and media in and let all parameters settle before fish and coral go in.

I dont know, i dont think you can add plants once the fish is in.

not sure i never had a salt water tank , only what i heard. lol
