Yes my Cardiologists told me this good news about 4 months ago.

The heart can be "dead" up to 2 weeks from memory.

That's why I don't need to hit 80 kgs before I join the list. I have to be at least 97kgs now.

Thank the Good Lord He gave these people the brains to think of this stuff that saves lives.
So we have one of these machines in Australia then? If so, that's awesome news.

Tres cool !!

Back in undergrad when I was researching ischemic injury, I used a Langendorff isolated heart perfusion model to study recovery...rats were my animal model. I would imagine this systems borrows heavily for the Langendorff set-up.

$250k USD per machine, so in the grand scheme of things, not a lot of money (at least compared to an MRI/CAT/Blood Analysis machine).

Amazing how technology assists the medical industry these days.

There's no reason why every major hospital shouldn't have one of those machines. Imagine the heart harvesting that could be done on deceased persons.

Likewise for that matter, organ donation SHOULD be compulsory and opt out.

On another note, there are a number of companies making Organ Perfusion Systems these days.

Royal Perth Hospital has had one since 2012.
St Vincents in Sydney since 2014.

My brothers in that industry so tells me about all these cool new devices coming up / out :D

Wonderful..wonderful!!! This is where our tax payers dollars should go.. We've got hospitals raising money for life saving equipment..like this..instead it goes to upgrading sporting stadiums that are not that old..bloody pathetic

Well instead of hitting 80 kgs before they put me on the list now I have to be 97 kgs. They still want me ultimately to be 80 kgs.

I have lost 21 kgs so far, 13 kgs to go.

Otherwise no news, which is good news.

Well heart deterioration isn't as fast as usual/expected. Docs are scratching their heads but it's all God's work.

That's sad , is it due to the poor ref calls or the way our team play?
