CANTERBURY BULLDOGS
They are a team that has struggled all year to cross the stripe.
Despite sitting seventh, Canterbury have scored fewer tries than all but Gold Coast, Wests Tigers and Cronulla. Worse, from inside their own half they have scored just four — the worst of any NRL team. This is a complete turnaround from 2011-2012 when they led all teams for tries inside their own half, mainly due to the support and scintillating form of Ben Barba.
Privately rival players & coaches have conceded that the main strategy when playing the Bulldogs is limitiing their forwards rolling up the field, as stats show the side struggles to create try scoring opportunites through their spine and backline - with Tim Lafai who is all step, shimmy and swerve emerging as the unlikely danger man.
Perhaps because of a slowish backline, Canterbury rely heavily on getting inside the rival red zone for points, with 82 per cent of their tries coming from plays inside the opposition 20m line.
