Just on FB Hasler is keen on Nathan Gardiner as insurance for Barba. Very interesting as Hasler could be giving away Barba could very well be out for the season. Very interesting.

Nathan Gardner to the Bulldogs?
SPORTAL – MARCH 6, 2013
Gardner could fill in for Barba
The Cronulla Sharks‘ boom full-back Nathan Gardner is in the sights of the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs.

Last year’s grand finalists are almost $200,000 under the salary cap following the recent retirement of veteran forward Corey Payne. Coach Des Hasler is rumoured to be interested in Gardner as ‘insurance’ for the sidelined Ben Barba.

Dally M champion Barba is out indefinitely – and Hasler has named specialist winger Steve Turner to replace him in Round 1 against the Cowboys. Gardner has been chosen in Cronulla’s NSW Cup side this weekend, losing his No.1 jersey from last year to new signing Michael Gordon.

The talented Gardner had a lean time last season, playing just six NRL matches for the Sharks, and may be interested in a change of colours. Whether coach Shane Flanagan would let him go, however, remains to be seen.

Don't think the rumour about Barba going to the cowboys is true. Also regarding JT, I don't even think we are in the mix anymore? Thought they were only reporting Penrith, or he will stay at the Cowboys?
They said on Grill team that a one of the Major sydney clubs put a $6mil package to JT over 4 years + 5 years employment after retirement. Not sure if it was us or not but tht is massive

Grill team have been wrong quite a bit as well.

$1.5 mill from your cap on one player. Unlikely.

Dare say not all of it would count against the cap, but it's still a lot of money to invest in one bloke

Dogs are eyeing off Sam Williams http://fb.me/1zKYITD02. IMO would be a good buy. Can direct the team well and takes on the line. With JT close to re-signing with cowboys, Williams would be a good but and would come cheap, allowing to splash out on perhaps izzy Folau!
I agree. I remember watching him last year and thinking he was good without even knowing his name. Then when people started dropping his name here I googled him. I reckon being young, skilled and off contract he is the logical long term prospect

This was from the Panthers, let's just say I know a bloke who knows a bloke. The talk I was told was $6mill over 4 years and then the job was (the boss of) running and overseeing their junior development and players.

Private concerns

When the Bulldogs asked for privacy regarding Ben Barba they weren't making the request lightly. The club has genuine concerns about Barba's well-being and know that he is in a delicate place when it comes to not only his football future, but his future in general. On Sunday, Nine News was offered photos of Barba in a rehabilitation clinic. The photographer who took the shots started off by asking for $20,000, saying they were in hot demand. He continued to come back to Channel Nine and by the end he was offering the photos for $500, but Nine News bosses decided that they weren't worth running given the Bulldogs' request for privacy for Barba. Photos of Barba in rehab turned up elsewhere and to say that his teammates, family and friends were disappointed is an understatement.

Amazing that the weedler had more morality/credibility than the Daily telegraph when it came to posting the pics of Benny.

STILL on Folau, the rumours are getting louder every day that he will be playing for the Canterbury Bulldogs next season.

The Bulldogs are $200,000 under their salary cap following the recent early retirement of second-rower Corey Payne.

That money will be used to increase several players' salaries this season so it will free up more cash for a Folau bid in 2014.

BARBA ON MEND - THERE'S still a long way to go, but those close to Ben Barba say the superstar fullback is making some solid progress. No official time frame has been put on his return but the feedback is extremely positive from the medical rehab.

Would be great if we can snap up a winger or half back. I think getting a halfback for the future should be Des's main concern for now.

I reckon Izzy would play in the centre's with Inu moving to the wing

but we definitely need a halfback KK tries his best but he just isn't good enough

Yeh I think once we have replacement for Turner, Benny is back and possibly a new skilled halfback who is going stop the young wrecking machine known as Canterbury? Also very much liking this forum :D

If we sign a good halfback, we have a dynasty on our hands. That's how close this team is. I'd much rather fork out the big money for someone like Sam Williams, than for Israel Folau.

Just thinking of what a skilled halfback could do in Des's plans *drools*
