Brett Kimmorley's future with the Bulldogs beyond this season is uncertain with coach Kevin Moore admitting the halfback is entering the back-end of his career.

Moore hasn't ruled out keeping the NSW Origin player on beyond 2010 however, saying negotiations with the halfback are ongoing.

"We have just been talking with Brett," Moore told reporters on Wednesday.

"He is obviously getting to that stage towards the back-end of his career so we have had some discussions with him and we will continue to do that behind closed doors."

Coming off the back of a successful 2009, Moore believes the Dogs off-season recruits have boosted the team.

While he admits the club's former star, Hazem Al Masri, is irreplaceable he is happy with the recruitment of former Melbourne player Steve Turner.

"(El Masri) is irreplaceable, he has been one-of-a-kind for our club and he was outstanding both on and off the field ... we won't be looking to replace him," Moore said

"But we are very happy with Steve Turner from Melbourne. He has played the last four grand finals and he has played a State of Origin game as well so we are happy to have him on board.

"We have picked up Dene Halatau, he was outstanding for the Tigers ... and picked up Mickey Paea from the Dragons who is also an impact type player.

"Hopefully between those two and some of the younger guys coming through we can fill the void that Greg (Eastwood) left.

"The people we have added to the squad can add some more quality to the squad and also add some depth to cover for injuries, so I think we can take further improvement from where we were last year."

Bulldogs centre Josh Morris says El Masri's support for the younger players will be missed as much as his goal kicking ability.

"He (was) definitely a big influence on some of those younger players, he will be missed in that way and it will be interesting to see who will be the goal kicker next year," Moore said.

While Morris hasn't seen much of the new players yet he said they seem to be fitting in to the team well.

"I have only seen a little bit of each player but from what I can see they are looking pretty good, they have all fit in well," he said.

Versatile forward David Stagg has returned from a shoulder injury sooner than expected and is back in training.

"I think the only bloke that we are going to be missing maybe for the first week or two is Chris Armit who is recovering from a shoulder reconstruction but everyone else will be on deck," Moore said.

Personally, as much as I love BK and what he's done for us thus far, I don't want him to sign for us beyond 2010 and hold our juniors back.

We've bought and bought the last 2 years - time to breed again.

Yeah I think it might be time for Noddy to hang up the boots by the end of the season. Time will tell though.

LOL@Hazem Al Masri

Let's hope we can make it 5 Grand Finals in a row for Steve Turner this year :grinning:

100% correct but only if our juniours are better where at this stage they are not. in saying that, i would hope he does not hold us back from signing D Mortimer.

Not a word on Halatau and his supposed ACL operation.

D Mortimer or Thurston. I think we may very well lure the man back to Belmore.

Agree about the mixed feelings. Dunno about taking him for the same money though.

Thurston is Premiership-winning material. Mortimer is yet to prove this, can't wait to see what he can deliver in 2010.

Kimmorley will know himself anyway. If he thinks he can do another year no problems, then that's a different story. But yeah he probably wouldn't.. he will know when it's his time to stand down and give juniors a shot.

Thurston's 26.

I really hope Jack can get a crack sometime this year. Be interesting to see how he can make the leap - I enjoy watching him play. He wasn't the greatest in NYC because he's a team player, and most of the others were individuals, which might be why he's a relative unknown.

He may be the future. Time will tell.

yeh i agree on Mortimer, be interesting if he can continue to step up this year and if he plays halfback or not as i can not see Mateo being continually on the bench.

I am not a fan of Jack slippery. i dont he has what it takes to make it and i asumme that is why we bought Green for cover, he also has Barba in front of him.
but as you said time will tell

Yeah see that's the thing, I don't think he quite fit into the NYC team, and as a half, you need that support.

I agree on Green. We wouldn't have brought him over otherwise...

Personally I think NSW Cup will start with:

1. Barba
6. Jack
7. Green

Considering we don't have a specialist fullback in NSW Cup, I think it'd be out of Green and Jack who would get first picks for the 6 and 7 roles.

Yeah, I knew he had something done to that knee. I've seen him around over xmas twice and he was wearing a knee brace.

Didn't he do the knee last year and have an operation?

Maybe just a arthroscopy (clean out)?

yeh thats interesting, i guess it all depends on where Moore sees Barba's future, if he see's it as 6 or 7 then he will play their in NSW cup.

I'm sure Noddy will know when his time is up. I can't see him going past this year though.
