Truth is a family can get tickets to most games for about $50. cheap entertainment by any standard in this day and age. You generally get to watch 2 games and some sort of activity between games. To be honest, my least favourite home games are at Belmore. It is just a dump from a spectator point of view. It invariably rains and no matter where you are you get soaked. I have tickets supposedly under cover in the stand and still get saturated. You have to walk miles to get to your car. The food is inconvenient to get to and generally rubbish and taking a pee is like a road trip. Frankly I'll take ANZ every day of the week. Having gone to Suncorp for Origin 1 a couple of weeks ago I now get the difference between there and ANZ and hopefully when the redo ANZ it will be just as good, but the point is the maxi stadia are light years ahead of the suburban dumps.
Agree about Suncorp.
I lived in Brusbane for 6 years and worked at Milton so easy walk to Suncorp.
In my opinion best ground in Australia to watch Rugby League, Union & Football.

Have you been to Melbourne on a Saturday, there is NOTHING else on but afl then everyone goes to the casino , thats Melbourne!
The weather is shit, there is zero competition to afl and watching it on tv is hopeless, you need to see how huge the ground is and there are players everywhere.
In Sydney most weekends the sun shines and there are rival codes everywhere .
Nrl is better watched on tv sadly and it is most definitely the cost factor that keeps people away.
Paying $12 for a crap slop burger and $7 for a drink, come on, its a disgrace.
Then we Doggies fans have to try and digest that rubbish watching a Hasler coached team of boring robots.
No thanks, i wont go unless its a freeby ticket these days.
As for origin, they killed that by making it a qld thing and price wise it is also a disgrace.
I actually like Melbourne. It's just a great city to walk around and get into and out of, unlike Sydney which is a bunfight no matter what time of the day or night. Victorians have a 100 years of tradition of their footy being a family event. They didn't have pokies for decades and so chook raffles and memberships drove their finances. It just became a tradition to go to the footy rather than watch it on TV because that was how the players got paid. here it was all about leagues clubs and pokies so it didn't matter if the crowds were small. Now everyone is jumping up and down about the huge crowds down there and the little ones here, but the fact is the culture and traditions of both games is very different. Most of their games are played in daylight, encouraging families to go, whereas most of ours are at night discouraging them. It has nothing to do with food prices, what else is on or even comfort. It is about tradition and timing. The good news is that our crowds are growing generally and our memberships have increased significantly so it is not all bad news.

Also it doesn't rain that much down here any more thanks to climate change and there is plenty of other things to do, even other sport to go beside Australian rules.

I think the biggest factor is the ease of getting to the MCG or docklands.

Membership numbers might be increasing but crowds are decreasing.
I smell something fishy

Absolutely. It's only a few hundred metres from Flinders street to MCG and AAMI and about the same from the other big station to Etihad. That combined with trams and flat walking makes getting in and out pretty easy. Melbourne had the advantage of being a planned city whereas Sydney was established in the 18th century and was never designed for modern life.

I will no longer support the NRL, the most corrupt organisation I have ever seen. Worse than the banks, worse than the mafia...

How can they officiate a game with blatant favoritism towards a team and exepect the public to just take it like we're imbeciles?

I will never again part with even one cent towards any item with their name in it.

I'm so over it.

Maybe the Integrity unit can look look at the NRL management and see if there are breaches of ethics or bias, what exactly does the Commission do?

It should go to the courts, there is so much evidence of match fixing it's criminal
