I need to stream stuff on my TV, normally i just use the lappy via hdmi to do this but i kinda want something compact that will neatly fit behind the TV. Would the raspberry pi be able to stream this stuff i normally stream through the lappy?Does this count?
F**K ... now I could really go for a sweet raspberry pie.
As for the other one... have thought about buying one but I have no need for it.
Yh i looked at those originally but i don't wanna spend that sort of money on something i don't really need. The raspberry pi only caught my interest as it was cheap and compact.Intel Nuc or similar ... I have 2 of them at home (upstairs and downstairs).

They kick arse, and even the little Celeron versions should go okay (I have one i3 and one i5).

Our pick up recorded FTA TV shows via Windows Media Player (via Panasonic bluray recorder), they are also setup for catch up TV, for playing files from our NAS, for KODI, and for Foxtel Go.
NOTE: Prices from mWave are about average these days. Some places will be cheaper, others more expensive.
Yes and no. It can handle basic streaming but there's many things it can't handle. It depends what you want to stream. If it's something that's windows primary like Foxtel then you could think about getting a stick PC or a NUC. Bit expensive though. For other things Apple TV, Chrome cast, Android tv streaming box, etc.I need to stream stuff on my TV, normally i just use the lappy via hdmi to do this but i kinda want something compact that will neatly fit behind the TV. I forgot totally about the Intel Stick PC ... that'd defintely be a worthy contender, and combine it with a Logitech K400R.Yes and no. Yep. But it depends on the requirements of what you're streaming. This should handle pretty much everything fine as far as streaming goes but occasionally some things will require a better machine.Something like this?

So i could basically stream whatever i stream on my regular pc or mac?
I'd love to splash out on one, but can't justify the cost (and also don't have a 4K monitor). So i got myself a gtx 1080 Ti been gaming at 4k for the last 2 or so weeks on it all i can say is wow.
