Lots of offcut players.

We need a David stagg type player.. tackling machine like cotter carigan etc..

When selections are made, the salary cap, the players reputation are not in the equation. They must be selected on current form and the amount of contribution they make to the team.

There is only one spot in the 17 for Taffee, Mann, and Turpin
If Taafe doesn't play FB I don't think he is in the 17. I think we will start with Burto and Sex, with Hutch first man up. If Mann plays for us like he did for Newcastle he is the 14 everyday of the week. Turpin is backup.

too hard to determine before trials. One thing i can guess for sure is that Turpin will play a bigger role in the first grade side than anyone has predicted so far. I like the bloke, but Mahoney was really bad under fatigue last year.
Turpin is absolutely awful. Terrible player.

Incorrect. Solid defender, decent service. Outplayed brandon smith last year
He's decent back-up but he isn't NRL standard if relied upon week to week (which he wasn't signed to do). He had a lot of potential in his early NRL years but he took a few steps backwards. Cheese was still better than him this year tho (and quite significantly).

I keep forgetting about the Coaches favourite, Harrison Edwards. He'll be in or there about's in the 17/ 21.

I don't think he has a supplementary contract so he can't play until mid season if true

Confident mann/hutch will be in cup.
Turpin to only come in if Reed is struggling again but I have a feeling they will go with Taffee at 14 for some reason.

With HIA the way it is. It’s much more likely that they have a utility that covers outside backs more that the traditional hooker utility at 14.

That being said Reed cannot and shouldn’t play 80min so we should be carrying someone in the 17 that can play 15-20 at hooker.

A warning that some selections may cause heart ache. There were some tough calls, sounds like everyone is training hard. If it was upto me I’d give this a nudge for Round 1.

1. Tracey
2. Kiraz
3. Criton
4. Burton
5. Xerri
6. Salmon
7. Sexton
8. Hughes
9. Mahoney
10. Knight
11. Kikau
12. RFM
13. King

14. Preston
15. Curren
16. Mann
17. Turpin/Morrin/Hutchinson/Taffe/Sutton/bolter (as in someone from nowhere)

I’ll pick my 17 depending on the opposition, game plan and how much confusion and drama I want to cause with emergencies and hype. The former and the latter seem to go hand in hand :grinning:

Sounds like Xerri is ready. Maybe only needs a crash course on NRL ‘interpretation’. Id like to go to that course. I doubt he’s forgotten how to catch footballs and run hard, or the 'interpretation' there of. Who knows where he’ll end up. I cant wait to see him out there. On paper (screen) he and Kiraz-a-mataz should be having field days.

All puppy guts does is tackle and help with the hard yards coming off our line. Work out something else for him to do in attack. Maybe pull out pencil n paper n take notes. For now if we cant sort points with Tracy/*Burton/*Criton/Sexton/King/Mahoney I’ll be worried. Hopefully Sexton can move the team around.

RFM gets a chance to prove his worth. No excuses, plenty of depth. If he goes good then potential in attack boarders on unstoppable, both sides of the field. Preston on the bench is more about keeping pressure on the starting squad. Id actually like to see him play lock but I also like to see King get back to his off loading best.

It’s a great point about HIA. I think one of our utilities will be 18th man. Maybe this has to be rotated around, otherwise match fitness will suffer.
