Eddie Jones faces the press conference after Wales demoralised the Wobbles in the World Cup. It’s painful. Which it should be.

He played at Hooker for Randwick during our successful period. He knows the philosophy of run the ball, with skill and speed. The whole levels of Rugby have lost this philosophy, and it shows.

Another thing Eddie went to Matraville Sports High. This is a lot of Rugby’s problems, it needs a big shake up in terms of the pathways because it’s not wide spread. It is just focuses on a narrow selection of schools. In 1998 they began a program and competition of playing rugby in schools which traditionally played Rugby League. It was getting more kids to play and identifying kids that were suited to the game. It obviously failed.

This is what they need to do. Have a widespread identification process, get grassroots coaches teaching and developing the basic skills, techniques and defensive patterns. Have all coaches coaching with the same philosophy, and get back to the running game. That is what brought em their success, skill with the ball all over the park and tough defenders. Heck get some Rugby League tough nuts in there. I know Ryles was there with them, this time (only a short time albeit) They used to have ex- league players like John Muggelton as defensive coach when they won the cup in 1999.. his philosophy on defence ..

“If you have a look at the tradition of World Cups, there is a million points scored in the rounds, a couple of hundred in the quarter-finals, because there are usually one or two mismatches, but in the semi-finals and final, games are normally won on defence.”

Combine that to the running game, you get this brilliance..

Remember the quarter final against the Irish in 1991, the year they won the World Cup for the first time? They were 18-15 behind with 4 minutes to go and decided to run the ball. Skill, speed, the attacking attitude, confidence in their ability, got em over the line. They won 19-18 and went on the raise the Webb Ellis Cup.

Just a note the Wallaby winger, not Campo, Rob Egerton (guy patting the mercurial Michael Lynagh on the back in the above video still) was my footy coach at school. He was a fullback at Sydney University, and was selected for the internationals that year and the World Cup, which he retired after. I guess when you reach the pinnacle of Rugby there is nowhere else to go.

ps. Old Eddie is a cranky fella..ex-hooker I guess!
Getting to the stage where the magic is starting to wane probably.

Fiji just beat Georgia 17-12 after coming from 9-0 down. They didn’t secure the bonus points which means the Wobblies could potentially still make the Quarter finals.. Georgia has been eliminated. Australia and Fiji both finish the group by facing Portugal. Australia need to pick up a bonus-point win and hope Fiji lose without a point. Even Portugal could sneak in with two remarkable victories.. so technically, yes… Realistically, no.

Wallabies beat Portugal 34-14 .. Yes they get the bonus attacking points and now need Fiji to lose to Portugal without getting any bonus attacking points..The reality is that they even had struggles beating Portugal a minnow Rugby nation. Wallabies don’t deserve to make it to the Quarterfinal, they deserve to pack their bags and go home.

even if they were to make the qtrs England would beat them by 30 points easily.

By the looks of it, Ireland, the all Blacks, South Africa and France, are really the only contenders..
pretty much though Wales could be a surprise and upset those teams u listed

wow England only just beat Samoa by 1 point
Manu were very unlucky. Officiating in rugby is fkn dodgey as. Taking tries off after conversions are made. Penalties every breakdown but selective officiating. Proud of the Manu
