he was a good organising halfback, but was never a try assist machine...

for me a half must be able to sniff out a try from nothing and shifty could do that every day of the week..

I was pretty sure it was true. Hence why Shifty's form dropped quite a lot out of nowhere after dominating for three or four years..

Shouldn't underestimate the profound effect on him of the suicide of his best mate/cousin Paul Dooner at the same time as his divorce. Plus mending previously strained relationships with his parents. It (2005) was dark time for Shifty, fortunately he seems to have come out of it well.
