Talented second-rower Rhyse Martin has re-signed with the Bulldogs on a one year deal.

The 25 year-old, who was the Bulldogs ISP Player of the Season last year and represented Papua New Guinea in the World Cup, has made 8 First Grade appearances for the Bulldogs this season, including a memorable first touch on debut against the Broncos where he scored a try.

Rhyse has scored 4 NRL tries in total in his eight matches and boasts an outstanding kicking success rate of 93.8%.

Bulldogs Chief Executive Andrew Hill was delighted at being able to retain Martin's services:

"Rhyse has been part of a new group of younger players that have made their NRL debuts this season and who will form the nucleus of our squad going forward. His re-signing is another positive step in creating a balanced squad that can complement each other next season and take our club in the right direction. We are delighted to have him back on board."

Why a one year deal??

Good news. Happy that it is a 1 year deal. Give him more of a chance to prove himself. Plus we have 15 players coming off contract in 2020. Great work by the Club.

Great news. Im glad its just a one year deal. Im not a big fan of these massive multi year deals that are given out these days. It may come back to haunt us if he has a blinder of a year next year and we ha e to pay a lot more to re-sign him. But this way he really needs to step it up a notch in order to be re-sigbed again, and if he doesnt perform we can move him on and we will have a bit more in our kitty. well played board.
Oh, and to all the clowns losing their shit because of a speculative news article as per usual, i hope you have learned to hold your tongue in future.

I don’t get the Lamb support play comparison aye? He supported well in one game (Raiders) otherwise its disrespect to Baa who built his game on support , pushing up constantly

A few of the other signings should have been shorter deals like Cogger and Meaney (2 years max).

Happy about Rhyse, at least we have a decent goal kicker.

I would suggest that he thought he was worth more. CA said how but you sign on for 1 year and show us why.

hopefully with it just 12 months he will want to play his socks off on last games this year to show pay why he should be in top 13 next year, when RFM is fit..

playing from ISP will not attract a big contract upgrade for the following year.

This is a good deal for both sides. We don’t want to be burnt like we have in the past. A one year prove it deal for Martin means he has so much to gain next year and the team should benefit

Yeah happy with that. Atleast we have a first class goal kicker finally and a solid forward. Perfect contract the 1 year deal allows both sides to asses their futures. Plays well he gets an upgrade, plays poorly we can move him on. Good job Dogs.
