Frequently Asked Questions

HELP! I can't reply to messages. I get a permissions error.

If you are unable to post (but can view forums) the likely cause is that your email address is unvalidated.

In order to check this go to: https://www.thekennel.net.au/forum/index.php?account/contact-details

Ensure that your email address is up to date.

Our system is designed to periodically check that email addresses for users are legitimate. If the system does not get a reply, or the email address comes back as invalid, the account is put into read only mode.

You can contact a moderator (E.G Mr Invisible) via Start a New Conversation who can check this for you: https://www.thekennel.net.au/forum/index.php?conversations/add

A list of moderators can be found here: https://www.thekennel.net.au/forum/index.php?members/&type=staff

Should you still find yourself unable to post (even after validating email), it may be because your account is flagged for manual approval. This often occurs with registrations from free email addresses and known spam domains.

Moderators generally try to attend to account approvals promptly, however, as they are volunteers sometimes there can be delays.

If you are still experiencing problems or wish to ask for support, please post in our Account Assistance Thread, and a moderator will be alerted to approve your post and start investigating your problem.

Once your post appears in that thread, it means a moderator has read and is looking into your issue. Replies will often be made in that thread if we cannot contact you otherwise.

How do I report a post?

A user can report a post by clicking the blue Report button located below the message of a post. The user will be promoted to fill out several questions before sending the report to a moderator. Moderators will generally respond to a report within 24 hours. You will be notified of the moderator’s actions after a moderator evaluates the post in question. If you are unsatisfied with the response, you can contact one of the forum members by starting a conversation with them.

Are posts approved before they appear?

No. All the posts made directly to the forum are available to the public as soon as they are posted. Moderators do not control which posts are made, but can control if a post is removed after the fact. Guests and banned members cannot post to the forum.

How do I edit my signature?

Once logged in, click your username on the right of the navigation bar in the heading and select ‘Change Signature’. It should take you to the changing signature page where you can change it.

Repeat Offences

Repeat offenders on the forum are likely to have their IP address banned from posting on the forum. They can also have their account subject to ‘discouragement’ which means the website will consistently load slowly; and often lead to 404 errors and timeouts.

How do I become a moderator?

The Kennel is always happy to take on new moderators. Feel free to send your application detailing your username and why you’d like to become a moderator to info@thekennel.net.au for consideration.

  • Clear inappropriate user details

Sin bin (ban)

The sin bin is normally used to apply to short term bans from the forum on users causing trouble. While in the sin bin, users are unable to post, and are unable to have conversations with other members. If you are sin binned and you’d like to request a review, you can email the administrators at info@thekennel.net.au

How do I become a premium member?

What levels of responses are there to breaking the rules?

Moderators have various tools which can be used to respond to breaches of the rules, including:
  1. Post deletion
  2. Thread deletion
  3. Personal warnings
  4. Thread-specific bans
  5. Temporary sin bin
  6. Permanent sin bin
While the above is an example of typical moderator responses to rules breaches, we reserve the right to respond in whichever manner we see fit in the circumstances.

What is a thread is it the same as a post? How do I create a thread that will show up in Bulldogs discussion?

A thread is a subject topic which contains posts.

To create a thread under any subforum simply click the POST NEW THREAD button generally found at the top right of each subforum.

This also ensures the thread goes into that subforum.

Why does The Kennel allow swearing?

In the 21st century, profanity is so common that is considered by many to no longer be offensive. So long as the profanity is not directed at a specific person, gender, religion, group or otherwise, we do not feel a need to prevent swearing on the forum. We encourage users to limit their swearing when not necessary and encourage an environment of intelligent discussion. Swear words are sometimes ok; swearing directed at others is not.

What can I do if my post was deleted?

If your post was deleted it’s because you broke the Forum Rules. If your post was reported and we chose to delete your post, sometimes you will be issued with a warning with an explanation. You are still permitted to post on the forum, even if your post was deleted.

Why was my thread deleted?

Typically, threads are deleted when they breach the forum rules, which generally fall into the following categories:
  • Pointless discussion
  • A similar thread already exists
  • Fights occurring in the thread making it too difficult to moderate
  • The thread contains pictures that are sexually explicit
  • Spam
  • Off topic

What if I keep breaking the rules?

If you break the Forum Rules repeatedly, you might end up with a temporary ban from the forum known as the ‘sin bin’. In very rare cases we will permanently ban you and your IP address from the forum. Whilst in the sin bin, a user is unable to post anywhere and their user title is changed to reflect the status. A user will normally be warned before a forum ban is put in place by way of conversation with a moderator.
